What does GPS stand for? Global Positioning System
History Invented by the U.S Department of Defense which they used as a military application It was designed, built and operated and maintained by the Department of Defense Designed to track submarines carrying nuclear missiles  Costing ~12 Billion tax payer dollars

How does it work? A group of satellites around the earth’s orbit transmit precise signals These signals allow GPS receivers to calculate and display accurate location, speed and time information to the user It only takes 3 or more satellites to pinpoint your location
How GPS works continued… GPS works through all weather conditions, all day and around the clock Some locations may not permit accurate GPS navigation due to blocked signals that can be caused by canyon walls, skyscrapers or dense forests GPS receivers are typically accurate within 15 meters
Today GPS has become a multi-billion dollar industry with lots of products that use GPS
