Mother Teresa, born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in Skopje, Macedonia in 1910, was a Catholic nun who spent her life serving the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying in Kolkata, India. She founded the Missionaries of Charity order which now has over 5,000 nuns and countless volunteers serving in 123 countries. On the 100th anniversary of her birth, celebrations were held worldwide to honor her life of unwavering faith and service to humanity.

home at the age of 18 to

the name Teresa after
arriving in India and took
religious vows as a nun

teaching as part of the Loreto
order in India, in 1948, she
left her convent out of a
genuine urge to work among
marginalised people in the
streets of Kolkata. She also
adopted Indian citizenship.

14. On the occasion of the birth centenary of Mother Teresa, the centenary edition of her
biography, authored by former Chief Election Commissioner Navin Chawla, was released at the
