Labour court Jau )ches e-fihng system to ('ut queue~
The Brazil ..... " has implemented a new system, which enables petitions to be
filed electronically. Petitioners can also attaeh evidence to the electronie petition. There is no need
for parties to provide a hard copy of the petition afier filing it electronieally, although originais should
be retained as they may later be requested by a judge.
Once a petition is filed, the new system automatically issues a receipt It also notifies the filer of (i)
the court to whieh the petition has been allocated, and (ii) the date and time of the first hearing.
Before this process was made electronic, it took at least a month for parties to be informed of these
details.
The new service allows lawyers to carry out almost ali filing procedures via the Internet, thus
avoiding long queues to file labour actions. In order to use the system lawyers must register with the
court online, but registration is free. Over 2,500 lawyers have already registered with the system.
The service is eurrently only available in São Paulo. However, it is hoped that the electronie filing
system will be extended to other cities in the near future.
