Indecency and lewdness has become the
fashion of the day. What does Islam say
about this?

2

www.ziaislamic.com
3
Islam is a religion of purity and chastity. Its
purity is not limited to just the dress and attire.
Its purity is not limited to the parts of the body.
Its cleanliness is not bound to the home and
hearth. These all are but external purity.
Islam insists on purity of the inward aspect
(Batin) much more than it insists on purity of
the outward aspect (Dhahir). It teaches one to
have pure character and attributes. It teaches
us to clean our thoughts and notions.
It
prohibits the filth of ignobleness and teaches us
to stay away from evil and unchaste thoughts.
It teaches us to stay away indecency and
immodesty. Thus, Islam wants us to avoid all
kinds of impurity, be it external, internal or of
any other kind or type. Almighty Allah says in
the Holy Quran:
Say:- My Lord has declared unlawful only (all)
the indecent acts which become known. (Surah
Al A’raaf: 07:33)
Abstaining from lewd gazing and sweetness of
worship
Whenever anyone’s gaze falls on any stranger
(non-Mahram) and he/she turns it away, then
from the court of Almighty Allah, that person is
granted sweetness in worship.
As per this

Hadith of the the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam)
Translation: It has been narrated on the
authority of Hadhrat Abu Umama (May Almighty
Allah be well pleased with him) that the Holy
Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:
Whichever Muslim unintentionally sees the
beauty of an unrelated (non-Mahram) woman
and immediately turns his gaze down, then
Almighty Allah will grant him the guidance to
perform such worship, the sweetness of which
he will actually feel. (Musnad Imam Ahmad,
Musnad Abi Umamatal Bahili, Hadith No. 22938)
One of the reasons that the Muslims have been
ordered to keep their gaze down is that they
should not see any woman. When someone
ends up seeing a woman who is without Hijab,
then in this situation, it becomes difficult to
control one’s base desires (Nafs). That’s why
the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)
has ordered the removal of the root cause of all
this corruption.
Translation: Surely women come in the guise of
Satan and go in the guise of Satan, (i.e. men are
easily misguided by women). Hence, whenever
anyone from among you sees a woman, who
appeals to you, he should come to his wife
because this act will remove those thoughts

4

www.ziaislamic.com
5
which cross his heart and mind. (Musnad Imam
Ahmed, Musnad Jabir, Hadith No. 14911)
Lewd gazing is the prime reason which creates
immodesty and is a big reason for indecency.
The Lord Almighty Allah has posed restrictions
on the very source of indecency.

Check on lewd gazing- A way to end indecency
gazingIf there are restrictions posed on this prime
factor of indecency in the aforementioned
manner ordered by the Holy Quran and Hadith,
we will succeed in wiping out indecency from the
as the first phase of indecency is lewd gazing.
Then Unrelated (non-Mahram) girls and boys
start talking to each other and their relation
develops illicitly. If the first rung of this chain is
checked, then there will no chance of
conversation nor will the situation worsen
further. That’s the reason the Beloved Prophet
(Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has given severe
warnings on gazing at an Unrelated (nonMahram) woman. The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu
alaihi wa sallam) has said :
Translation: Whosoever looks at an Unrelated
(non-Mahram) woman with lust, on the Day of
Judgment, molten lead would be poured in his
eyes. (Hidayah, Kitab Ul Karahiyya, Vol. 4, Pg.
No. 458)

5

www.ziaislamic.com
6
A small speck of dust in our eyes makes us
restless. If a teeny-weeny insect goes into it,
the agony is even more pronounced. Can a
helpless being like this one bear the pouring of
molten lead in his (or her) eyes? Never.
The status of a believer is such that he (or she)
lowers his gaze and shouldn’t violate his eyes by
gazing at impermissible objects, because if he
gets involved in lewd gazing, his thoughts will
not stay the same anymore. Indecency and
anarchic thought take root in the mind and
intellect.

Talking with the fiancée
If a girl has been betrothed to a boy and an
engagement ceremony has been done, then the
girl and the boy freely talk with each other
without any reservations. They don’t find any
problem in roaming with each other .
If a match has been made with any girl then the
Shariah treats this as a promise of marriage.
They don’t become husband and wife after the
engagement.
Only an engagement doesn’t
obligate marriage as long as offer and
acceptance of marriage is not done in the
presence of 2 witnesses as required by the
Shariah .

6

www.ziaislamic.com
7
Thus, the guy does not become the husband of
the girl only because of the engagement nor
does the girl become the wife of the guy. On
the contrary, both of them are still unrelated
strangers (non-Mahram) to each other until their
marriage takes place. Thus, freely talking with
or meeting the fiancée before the marriage is
impermissible .
As given in Durre Mukhtaar, Vol. 5, Pg. No. 260:

Condemnable customs in marriages
Condemnable
It is the custom in “Sanchak” that the would-be
sister-in-law takes the finger of the would-be
groom in her own hand and applies Henna
although both of them are Unrelated strangers
(non-Mahram) to each other. It is assumed that
these kinds of acts on the occasions of
happiness and joy are not that wrong .
Here, it should be remembered that be it
marriage or other occasions of joy, there is no
problem if any function, etc. is organized within
the limits set by the Shariah.
However,
revealing one’s beauty to an Unrelated stranger
(non-Mahram), letting an Unrelated woman hold
one’s hand, etc. all these are prohibited by the
Shariah.

7

www.ziaislamic.com
8
It is strictly forbidden to touch or caress a nonMahram. The Hadith have warnings about it.
There is a Hadith about in Al Hidayah:
Translation: Whoever touches the hand of a
non-Mahram woman, on the Day of Judgment,
an ember will be placed on his hand.
(Al
Hidayah, Kitab Ul Karahiyya, Vol. 4, Pg. No. 459)
An ember will be placed on the hand because
the sin of touching has been done through hand.
A small spark is enough to turn us over and over
in pain. The agony and pain when an ember
from the fires of hell is placed on the hand
cannot even be imagined in this world.
Applying Henna to the hand of a male is
prohibited. Neither the objective for which the
sister-in-law takes the hand of the would-be
groom is valid nor are they permitted to hold
hands .
Therefore, such customs which are against the
Shariah need to be dropped and done away with.

Prohibition of describing the Beauty of a NonNonMahram Lady
It is prohibited to see a non-Mahram woman as
because of this a man’s heart starts leaning
towards the non-Mahram woman. In this, there
is a very strong possibility of trouble. In the

8

www.ziaislamic.com
9
same way, when a woman speaks about the
beauty of a non-Mahram woman in front of her
husband and describes the beauty of that lady,
the man starts imagining and visualizing her.
Here too there is possibility of trouble as with
the visualizing through eyes.
That’s why the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam) has prohibited women from meeting
such a woman who mention their beauty before
her own husband. As there is a Hadith is Sunan
Abu Dawood :
Translation: It has been narrated on the
authority of Abdullah bin Mas’ud (May Almighty
Allah be well pleased with him) that he heard
that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam) say: No woman should meet another
woman with the intention of describing (the
other lady’s) beauty before her own husband in
such a (detailed) manner as if he himself is
seeing her.
(Sunan Abu Dawood, Babu Ma
Yu'maru Bihee Min Gahddhil Basar, Hadith No.
2152)

Singing and dancing: Un-Islamic acts
UnToday Muslims consider song and dance to be an
integral part of their functions. Especially on the
occasions of marriage, song and dance has
become the custom. Muslims’ zeal about their

9

www.ziaislamic.com
10
faith and their sense of honor have abated so
much that one shirks from the obligatory duties
of Islam like Zakaat and Hajj, but spends money
like anything in useless and prohibited acts. Is it
Islamic to sing and dance and organize such
events on the occasion of marriage?
Is it
permissible to invite orchestras and songstresses
and rend the chador of modesty thereby? Is it
the mark of Muslims to disturb others by
drinking wine and exploding crackers ?
This cannot be the customs of Muslims. These
cannot be the mark of the believers.
The
demand of the Islamic faith that Muslims should
avoid such un-Islamic acts and events in their
functions and refrain from all blameworthy
attributes in all walks of life.
There is a Hadith in Imam Baihaqui’s Shu’ab Ul
Iman about singing:
Translation:
It has been narrated on the
authority of Hadhrat Jabir bin ‘Abdullah (May
Allah be well pleased with them) that the Holy
Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:
Singing and using musical instruments cultivates
hypocrisy in the heart, the way water cultivates
crops. (Shu’ab Ul Iman, Al Ghinau Yumbitun
Nifaqa Fil Qalb, Hadith No. 4889)

10

www.ziaislamic.com
11
When one indulges in singing even after its
prohibition, it is a sign of hypocrisy in this
person. The result of this is that there is no
taste
in
worship
and
no
pleasure
in
remembrance of Allah.
Devils dance on the shoulders of those who sing
and dance as given in “Tafseerat Ahmadiya” Pg.
No. 400:
Translation: The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam) said: Whoever raises voice in
singing, Almighty Allah imposes 2 devils on that
person, one on one shoulder and the other on
the other and they keep kicking this person
dancing until he becomes silent.
All this when this person is the cream of all
creation (i.e. a human being). Moreover, this
person believes in Almighty Allah whose open
enemy is Satan, the accursed. He/she accepts
the faith which Satan tries to stop from. Mercy
has been promised for the believers whereas
eternal condemnation is the lot of the devil. Is
this sanity that a Muslim sings and 2 devils kick
him?
It is in Durre Mukhtaar, Vol. 5, Pg. No. 542:
Translation:
All kinds of useless things are
Haraam (forbidden)

Singing and dancing – Whither the elders?
When the children do something wrong, the
elders correct them. But nowadays the situation
is such that when the youngsters are busy in
singing and dancing, the elders instead of
restraining them show their appreciation by
raining money on them. This most condemnable
custom ought to be changed.
Marriage is sacred. It is a kind of worship as
well. That’s the reason a sermon has been
decreed during it.
Decreeing a sermon in
marriage demands that it be respected, that it
creates fear and consciousness of Almighty Allah
in our hearts and the life after marriage is spent
with piety and devotion. It is the responsibility
of Muslims that singing, dancing and all such unIslamic customs should be removed from
marriage celebrations.
Islam is a religion of culture and refinement
which instructs every Muslims to remain
dignified and modest. Thus, all our functions
and celebrations should be free of sins and in
accordance with the Sunnah.

Singing and dancing in functions of schools
functions
and colleges

12

www.ziaislamic.com
13
In schools and college where the next
generation acquires education, an annual
function is held by the management of the
school.
On occasions of Independence Day,
Republic Day, functions take place. Teachers
make the students practice singing and dancing.
Those hallowed portals from where high morals
and character had to be disseminated, if they
themselves become centers of teaching sin, then
what can be expected from them?
Students of schools and colleges are allowed to
celebrate various special days like Teacher’s
Day, Student’s Day, Fresher’s Day, Farewell day,
etc .
We should really think about this. Innocent
students are in effect pleading before one and all
that they should be spared from this oppression.
The management of the schools and college
should organize functions which are free of song
and dance and other indecencies. If song and
dance is included in some celebration, then
parents and guardians shouldn’t attend it.
This way, the management and administration of
the schools also will be reformed. There is no
harm in attending shows, demonstrations
wherein there are no indecencies, song, dance,
etc.
Instead, the parents/guardians should

13

www.ziaislamic.com
14
make it a point to attend such programs as their
attendance and participation in such programs
will encourage students all the more.

Relations with guys in the college
Girls go to college. Till they return home, they
meet many Unrelated (non Mahram) guys. By
meeting them time and again, a relationship
starts. All this is happening, but the girls’ family
is not even aware of it. It is not permissible for
a Muslim woman/girl to see an Unrelated (nonMahram) guy. The Hadith have strict warnings
about 2 Unrelated (non-Mahram) of the opposite
sex meeting each other.
It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu
Umama (May Allah be well pleased with him):
Translation: The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi
wa sallam) said: You avoid being alone with
women. By Him who holds my life in His hand,
no man is alone with an Unrelated (nonMahram) woman but that Satan joins them.
(Mo’jam Kabeer Tabarani, Hadith No. 7736)
This obviates that relations between a Muslim
girl and an Unrelated (non Mahram) guy rouses
the wrath of Allah Most High.
It is the
responsibility of the parents and other elders
that they should educate their girls in a college

14

www.ziaislamic.com
15
where Hijab is properly practiced and there is no
mixing of guys and girls. Along with this, they
should personally monitor their wards .
If there is any lapse in proper upbringing of
children and the children end up on the wrong
path, then the parents/guardians will also be
held responsible for this before Almighty Allah.
Those guys and girls should keep in mind that
Almighty Allah is seeing us and is aware of what
we do and will hold one to account for the sins
and punish severely.
In the college and at workplaces, relationships
are formed between Unrelated (non-Mahram)
guys and girls. They freely mix with each other
although the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam) has declared this as adultery of the body
parts.
This “relationship” of this guy and girl is not just
limited to conversation but the boy and the girl
roam together. They even touch and caress
each other. There is a Hadith in Mo’jam Kabeer
Tabarani and Kanz Ul ‘Ummal :
Translation: Hadhrat Ma’aqal (May Allah be well
pleased with him) narrates that the Holy Prophet
(Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: That a needle
of iron should prick your head is better than that
you touch a non-Mahram woman.
(Mo’jam

15

www.ziaislamic.com
16
Kabeer Tabarani, Hadith No. 16880; Kanz Ul
‘Ummal, Kitab Ul Hudood, Al Fasluth Thani, Fit
Tasamuhi Wal Ighdhai Fil Hudood, Hadith No.
13065)
Just touching an Unrelated (non-Mahram) girl is
such a grave sin that the agony of its
punishment will be more than if a needle of iron
pricks the head.
When this person will be
punished, he will consider pricking of his head
with an iron needle less than and better than
this.

Physical relationships in the name of
Physical
friendship
Boys and girls start living with each other in the
name of friendship and this “friendship” leads to
illicit relationships (May Allah protect us all from
this). Physical relationship between boys and
girls is strictly forbidden.
Islamic guidelines and rules of the Shariah
cannot be violated in the name of friendship. It
is mentioned in Surah Taha:
And surely he who bears the
wrongdoing will crumble to failure.
(Surah Taha: 20:111)

17
Illicit physical relations is nothing but adultery
and a great sin and a Faithful (Momin) can’t
commit such an act.
If anyone denies this
mischief then Faith (Iman) will be out of him.
There is a Hadith in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih
Muslim :
Translation: It has been narrated on the
authority of Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be
well pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet
(Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: At the time
when an adulterer is committing adultery, he (or
she) is not a complete believer (Momin). (Sahih
Bukhari, Kitab Ul Madhalim, Babun Nuhba
Bighairi Idhni Sahibihee, Hadith No. 2475; Sahih
Muslim, Kitab Ul Iman, Babu Bayani Nuqsanil
Imani Bil Ma’asi, Hadith No. 211)
Describing how vile adultery is, the Holy Prophet
(Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has declared it the
worst sin after ascribing partners to Almighty
Allah (Shirk). He (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)
said:
Translation: After ascribing partners to Allah,
there is no sin worst than casting one’s seed in a
womb, which was not permissible for that man.
(Jame’ Ul Ahadith, Hadith No. 20456)

Mutual relations before marriage – The West
Islamic
and Islamic guidelines
In support of consensual sexual relations before
marriage, the west says that there should be
mutual relations before marriage as this enables
the man and the woman to understand each
other’s temperament and nature and gets the
chance to know each other.
This is just a
betrayal and gimmick .
The whole world knows the results of this
western approach.
Many women become
pregnant before marriage and have to abort out
of fear of facing the society and/or their
parents/guardian or for some other reasons .
Nowadays, indecency has become so common in
the society that it is being accepted in the name
of liberalism and the like .
The experts are saying that the society has, as a
whole, become complacent about sexual
licentiousness. There is no embarrassment or
sense of unease about any kind of sexual
escapades, be it adultery, sodomy or ay other
unnatural sexual act.
In fact, the media is
moving heaven and earth to try to make
virginity a source of embarrassment .

18

www.ziaislamic.com
19
Each person of the society should be concerned
about this. The society can change only when
the individuals of the society revolutionize it.

Homosexual relationships – The height of
indecency
The method of forming natural relationships
between a man and woman is marriage. For this
reason, we have marriage celebrations. At this
juncture, humanity is moaning with sorrow when
a man marries a man to satisfy his natural
desires and a woman turns to a woman for this
purpose and ceebrates it. This is a low strike
against humanity.
For a society, there is nothing worse than
homosexuality.
To save humanity from this
abyss, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa
sallam) has given strict warnings against this
act:
Translation: It has been narrated on the
authority of Hadhrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbas (May
Allah be well pleased with them) that the
Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)
said: May Allah the Exalted curse the person
who does what the Nation of Lut (May peace by
upon him) had done. May Allah the Exalted
curse that person.
He (Sallallahu alaihi wa

19

www.ziaislamic.com
20
sallam) said this thrice. (Musnad Imam Ahmed,
Hadith No: 2677 (
A vile thing like this is surely driving humanity
towards the abyss of destruction. At a time,
when a disease like AIDS is gobbling up
innocents as well, legalizing homosexuality will
only increase the march of this disease. If legal
status is granted to this revolt against nature,
then new problems will be created in the society
which will shake its very foundations.
Many sections of the society are supporting the
decision of the government and are declaring it
as modern culture, free thinking, etc, etc. It is
really sad that what ought to be labeled
animalism is being touted as a sign of liberalism.
For the sake of a virtuous and safe society, it is
the responsibility of each and every individual to
raise their voice against this.

Modesty – A major branch of Iman
It is a clear truth that modesty is the dividing
line between humanity and animalism. Human
beings should understand their status and honor
and should not acquire those qualities which will
fall them below humanity.
The Prophet of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)
said :

20

www.ziaislamic.com

Translation:
It has been narrated on the
authority of Hadhrat Abu Mas’ud (May Allah be
well pleased with him) that the Beloved Prophet
(Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Surely, it was
mentioned in the words of the previous Prophets
which the people received that if you don’t have
any shame, do whatever you want.
(Sahih
Bukhari, Hadith No. 6120)
It is the responsibility of all people as human
beings and especially Muslims that they should
refrain from lewd gazing. They should abstain
from premarital relationships. They should save
themselves from Un-Islamic customs in the
functions .
A woman should not describe the beauty of
another Unrelated (non-Mahram) woman before
her husband. They should refrain from acts like
singing and dancing in wedding ceremonies and
other functions. In the functions of schools and
colleges, one should be mindful of human
values. Each and every person should save
themselves from indecent and obscene deeds .
May Allah Most High grant all Muslims high
morals and lofty character, grant us the attribute
of modesty and save us from lewdness
.

Save yourself from indecency

  • 2. 2 Publisher Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center www.Ziaislamic.com E-Mail: Zia.islamic@Yahoo.co.in All rights reserved Indecency and lewdness has become the fashion of the day. What does Islam say about this? 2 www.ziaislamic.com
  • 3. 3 Islam is a religion of purity and chastity. Its purity is not limited to just the dress and attire. Its purity is not limited to the parts of the body. Its cleanliness is not bound to the home and hearth. These all are but external purity. Islam insists on purity of the inward aspect (Batin) much more than it insists on purity of the outward aspect (Dhahir). It teaches one to have pure character and attributes. It teaches us to clean our thoughts and notions. It prohibits the filth of ignobleness and teaches us to stay away from evil and unchaste thoughts. It teaches us to stay away indecency and immodesty. Thus, Islam wants us to avoid all kinds of impurity, be it external, internal or of any other kind or type. Almighty Allah says in the Holy Quran: Say:- My Lord has declared unlawful only (all) the indecent acts which become known. (Surah Al A’raaf: 07:33) Abstaining from lewd gazing and sweetness of worship Whenever anyone’s gaze falls on any stranger (non-Mahram) and he/she turns it away, then from the court of Almighty Allah, that person is granted sweetness in worship. As per this 3 www.ziaislamic.com
  • 4. 4 Hadith of the the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) Translation: It has been narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Umama (May Almighty Allah be well pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Whichever Muslim unintentionally sees the beauty of an unrelated (non-Mahram) woman and immediately turns his gaze down, then Almighty Allah will grant him the guidance to perform such worship, the sweetness of which he will actually feel. (Musnad Imam Ahmad, Musnad Abi Umamatal Bahili, Hadith No. 22938) One of the reasons that the Muslims have been ordered to keep their gaze down is that they should not see any woman. When someone ends up seeing a woman who is without Hijab, then in this situation, it becomes difficult to control one’s base desires (Nafs). That’s why the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has ordered the removal of the root cause of all this corruption. Translation: Surely women come in the guise of Satan and go in the guise of Satan, (i.e. men are easily misguided by women). Hence, whenever anyone from among you sees a woman, who appeals to you, he should come to his wife because this act will remove those thoughts 4 www.ziaislamic.com
  • 5. 5 which cross his heart and mind. (Musnad Imam Ahmed, Musnad Jabir, Hadith No. 14911) Lewd gazing is the prime reason which creates immodesty and is a big reason for indecency. The Lord Almighty Allah has posed restrictions on the very source of indecency. Check on lewd gazing- A way to end indecency gazingIf there are restrictions posed on this prime factor of indecency in the aforementioned manner ordered by the Holy Quran and Hadith, we will succeed in wiping out indecency from the as the first phase of indecency is lewd gazing. Then Unrelated (non-Mahram) girls and boys start talking to each other and their relation develops illicitly. If the first rung of this chain is checked, then there will no chance of conversation nor will the situation worsen further. That’s the reason the Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has given severe warnings on gazing at an Unrelated (nonMahram) woman. The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has said : Translation: Whosoever looks at an Unrelated (non-Mahram) woman with lust, on the Day of Judgment, molten lead would be poured in his eyes. (Hidayah, Kitab Ul Karahiyya, Vol. 4, Pg. No. 458) 5 www.ziaislamic.com
  • 6. 6 A small speck of dust in our eyes makes us restless. If a teeny-weeny insect goes into it, the agony is even more pronounced. Can a helpless being like this one bear the pouring of molten lead in his (or her) eyes? Never. The status of a believer is such that he (or she) lowers his gaze and shouldn’t violate his eyes by gazing at impermissible objects, because if he gets involved in lewd gazing, his thoughts will not stay the same anymore. Indecency and anarchic thought take root in the mind and intellect. Talking with the fiancée If a girl has been betrothed to a boy and an engagement ceremony has been done, then the girl and the boy freely talk with each other without any reservations. They don’t find any problem in roaming with each other . If a match has been made with any girl then the Shariah treats this as a promise of marriage. They don’t become husband and wife after the engagement. Only an engagement doesn’t obligate marriage as long as offer and acceptance of marriage is not done in the presence of 2 witnesses as required by the Shariah . 6 www.ziaislamic.com
  • 7. 7 Thus, the guy does not become the husband of the girl only because of the engagement nor does the girl become the wife of the guy. On the contrary, both of them are still unrelated strangers (non-Mahram) to each other until their marriage takes place. Thus, freely talking with or meeting the fiancée before the marriage is impermissible . As given in Durre Mukhtaar, Vol. 5, Pg. No. 260: Condemnable customs in marriages Condemnable It is the custom in “Sanchak” that the would-be sister-in-law takes the finger of the would-be groom in her own hand and applies Henna although both of them are Unrelated strangers (non-Mahram) to each other. It is assumed that these kinds of acts on the occasions of happiness and joy are not that wrong . Here, it should be remembered that be it marriage or other occasions of joy, there is no problem if any function, etc. is organized within the limits set by the Shariah. However, revealing one’s beauty to an Unrelated stranger (non-Mahram), letting an Unrelated woman hold one’s hand, etc. all these are prohibited by the Shariah. 7 www.ziaislamic.com
  • 8. 8 It is strictly forbidden to touch or caress a nonMahram. The Hadith have warnings about it. There is a Hadith about in Al Hidayah: Translation: Whoever touches the hand of a non-Mahram woman, on the Day of Judgment, an ember will be placed on his hand. (Al Hidayah, Kitab Ul Karahiyya, Vol. 4, Pg. No. 459) An ember will be placed on the hand because the sin of touching has been done through hand. A small spark is enough to turn us over and over in pain. The agony and pain when an ember from the fires of hell is placed on the hand cannot even be imagined in this world. Applying Henna to the hand of a male is prohibited. Neither the objective for which the sister-in-law takes the hand of the would-be groom is valid nor are they permitted to hold hands . Therefore, such customs which are against the Shariah need to be dropped and done away with. Prohibition of describing the Beauty of a NonNonMahram Lady It is prohibited to see a non-Mahram woman as because of this a man’s heart starts leaning towards the non-Mahram woman. In this, there is a very strong possibility of trouble. In the 8 www.ziaislamic.com
  • 9. 9 same way, when a woman speaks about the beauty of a non-Mahram woman in front of her husband and describes the beauty of that lady, the man starts imagining and visualizing her. Here too there is possibility of trouble as with the visualizing through eyes. That’s why the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has prohibited women from meeting such a woman who mention their beauty before her own husband. As there is a Hadith is Sunan Abu Dawood : Translation: It has been narrated on the authority of Abdullah bin Mas’ud (May Almighty Allah be well pleased with him) that he heard that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) say: No woman should meet another woman with the intention of describing (the other lady’s) beauty before her own husband in such a (detailed) manner as if he himself is seeing her. (Sunan Abu Dawood, Babu Ma Yu'maru Bihee Min Gahddhil Basar, Hadith No. 2152) Singing and dancing: Un-Islamic acts UnToday Muslims consider song and dance to be an integral part of their functions. Especially on the occasions of marriage, song and dance has become the custom. Muslims’ zeal about their 9 www.ziaislamic.com
  • 10. 10 faith and their sense of honor have abated so much that one shirks from the obligatory duties of Islam like Zakaat and Hajj, but spends money like anything in useless and prohibited acts. Is it Islamic to sing and dance and organize such events on the occasion of marriage? Is it permissible to invite orchestras and songstresses and rend the chador of modesty thereby? Is it the mark of Muslims to disturb others by drinking wine and exploding crackers ? This cannot be the customs of Muslims. These cannot be the mark of the believers. The demand of the Islamic faith that Muslims should avoid such un-Islamic acts and events in their functions and refrain from all blameworthy attributes in all walks of life. There is a Hadith in Imam Baihaqui’s Shu’ab Ul Iman about singing: Translation: It has been narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Jabir bin ‘Abdullah (May Allah be well pleased with them) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Singing and using musical instruments cultivates hypocrisy in the heart, the way water cultivates crops. (Shu’ab Ul Iman, Al Ghinau Yumbitun Nifaqa Fil Qalb, Hadith No. 4889) 10 www.ziaislamic.com
  • 11. 11 When one indulges in singing even after its prohibition, it is a sign of hypocrisy in this person. The result of this is that there is no taste in worship and no pleasure in remembrance of Allah. Devils dance on the shoulders of those who sing and dance as given in “Tafseerat Ahmadiya” Pg. No. 400: Translation: The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Whoever raises voice in singing, Almighty Allah imposes 2 devils on that person, one on one shoulder and the other on the other and they keep kicking this person dancing until he becomes silent. All this when this person is the cream of all creation (i.e. a human being). Moreover, this person believes in Almighty Allah whose open enemy is Satan, the accursed. He/she accepts the faith which Satan tries to stop from. Mercy has been promised for the believers whereas eternal condemnation is the lot of the devil. Is this sanity that a Muslim sings and 2 devils kick him? It is in Durre Mukhtaar, Vol. 5, Pg. No. 542: Translation: All kinds of useless things are Haraam (forbidden) 11 www.ziaislamic.com
  • 12. 12 Singing and dancing – Whither the elders? When the children do something wrong, the elders correct them. But nowadays the situation is such that when the youngsters are busy in singing and dancing, the elders instead of restraining them show their appreciation by raining money on them. This most condemnable custom ought to be changed. Marriage is sacred. It is a kind of worship as well. That’s the reason a sermon has been decreed during it. Decreeing a sermon in marriage demands that it be respected, that it creates fear and consciousness of Almighty Allah in our hearts and the life after marriage is spent with piety and devotion. It is the responsibility of Muslims that singing, dancing and all such unIslamic customs should be removed from marriage celebrations. Islam is a religion of culture and refinement which instructs every Muslims to remain dignified and modest. Thus, all our functions and celebrations should be free of sins and in accordance with the Sunnah. Singing and dancing in functions of schools functions and colleges 12 www.ziaislamic.com
  • 13. 13 In schools and college where the next generation acquires education, an annual function is held by the management of the school. On occasions of Independence Day, Republic Day, functions take place. Teachers make the students practice singing and dancing. Those hallowed portals from where high morals and character had to be disseminated, if they themselves become centers of teaching sin, then what can be expected from them? Students of schools and colleges are allowed to celebrate various special days like Teacher’s Day, Student’s Day, Fresher’s Day, Farewell day, etc . We should really think about this. Innocent students are in effect pleading before one and all that they should be spared from this oppression. The management of the schools and college should organize functions which are free of song and dance and other indecencies. If song and dance is included in some celebration, then parents and guardians shouldn’t attend it. This way, the management and administration of the schools also will be reformed. There is no harm in attending shows, demonstrations wherein there are no indecencies, song, dance, etc. Instead, the parents/guardians should 13 www.ziaislamic.com

Till they return home, they meet many Unrelated (non Mahram) guys. By meeting them time and again, a relationship starts. All this is happening, but the girls’ family is not even aware of it. It is not permissible for a Muslim woman/girl to see an Unrelated (nonMahram) guy. The Hadith have strict warnings about 2 Unrelated (non-Mahram) of the opposite sex meeting each other. It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Umama (May Allah be well pleased with him): Translation: The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: You avoid being alone with women. By Him who holds my life in His hand, no man is alone with an Unrelated (nonMahram) woman but that Satan joins them. (Mo’jam Kabeer Tabarani, Hadith No. 7736) This obviates that relations between a Muslim girl and an Unrelated (non Mahram) guy rouses the wrath of Allah Most High. If there is any lapse in proper upbringing of children and the children end up on the wrong path, then the parents/guardians will also be held responsible for this before Almighty Allah. Those guys and girls should keep in mind that Almighty Allah is seeing us and is aware of what we do and will hold one to account for the sins and punish severely. In the college and at workplaces, relationships are formed between Unrelated (non-Mahram) guys and girls. They freely mix with each other although the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has declared this as adultery of the body parts. This “relationship” of this guy and girl is not just limited to conversation but the boy and the girl roam together. They even touch and caress each other. There is a Hadith in Mo’jam Kabeer Tabarani and Kanz Ul ‘Ummal : Translation: Hadhrat Ma’aqal (May Allah be well pleased with him) narrates that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: That a needle of iron should prick your head is better than that you touch a non-Mahram woman. When this person will be punished, he will consider pricking of his head with an iron needle less than and better than this. Physical relationships in the name of Physical friendship Boys and girls start living with each other in the name of friendship and this “friendship” leads to illicit relationships (May Allah protect us all from this). Physical relationship between boys and girls is strictly forbidden. Islamic guidelines and rules of the Shariah cannot be violated in the name of friendship. It is mentioned in Surah Taha: And surely he who bears the wrongdoing will crumble to failure. (Surah Taha: 20:111) 16 burden of www.ziaislamic.com

There is a Hadith in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim : Translation: It has been narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be well pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: At the time when an adulterer is committing adultery, he (or she) is not a complete believer (Momin). • 18. 18 Mutual relations before marriage – The West Islamic and Islamic guidelines In support of consensual sexual relations before marriage, the west says that there should be mutual relations before marriage as this enables the man and the woman to understand each other’s temperament and nature and gets the chance to know each other. This is just a betrayal and gimmick . The whole world knows the results of this western approach. Many women become pregnant before marriage and have to abort out of fear of facing the society and/or their parents/guardian or for some other reasons . Nowadays, indecency has become so common in the society that it is being accepted in the name of liberalism and the like . The experts are saying that the society has, as a whole, become complacent about sexual licentiousness. There is no embarrassment or sense of unease about any kind of sexual escapades, be it adultery, sodomy or ay other unnatural sexual act. In fact, the media is moving heaven and earth to try to make virginity a source of embarrassment . 18 www.ziaislamic.com
  • 19. 19 Each person of the society should be concerned about this. The society can change only when the individuals of the society revolutionize it. Homosexual relationships – The height of indecency The method of forming natural relationships between a man and woman is marriage. For this reason, we have marriage celebrations. At this juncture, humanity is moaning with sorrow when a man marries a man to satisfy his natural desires and a woman turns to a woman for this purpose and ceebrates it. This is a low strike against humanity. For a society, there is nothing worse than homosexuality. To save humanity from this abyss, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has given strict warnings against this act: Translation: It has been narrated on the authority of Hadhrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbas (May Allah be well pleased with them) that the Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: May Allah the Exalted curse the person who does what the Nation of Lut (May peace by upon him) had done. • 20. 20 sallam) said this thrice. (Musnad Imam Ahmed, Hadith No: 2677 ( A vile thing like this is surely driving humanity towards the abyss of destruction. At a time, when a disease like AIDS is gobbling up innocents as well, legalizing homosexuality will only increase the march of this disease. If legal status is granted to this revolt against nature, then new problems will be created in the society which will shake its very foundations. Many sections of the society are supporting the decision of the government and are declaring it as modern culture, free thinking, etc, etc. It is really sad that what ought to be labeled animalism is being touted as a sign of liberalism. For the sake of a virtuous and safe society, it is the responsibility of each and every individual to raise their voice against this. Modesty – A major branch of Iman It is a clear truth that modesty is the dividing line between humanity and animalism. Human beings should understand their status and honor and should not acquire those qualities which will fall them below humanity. (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 6120) It is the responsibility of all people as human beings and especially Muslims that they should refrain from lewd gazing. They should abstain from premarital relationships. They should save themselves from Un-Islamic customs in the functions . A woman should not describe the beauty of another Unrelated (non-Mahram) woman before her husband. They should refrain from acts like singing and dancing in wedding ceremonies and other functions. In the functions of schools and colleges, one should be mindful of human values. Each and every person should save themselves from indecent and obscene deeds . May Allah Most High grant all Muslims high morals and lofty character, grant us the attribute of modesty and save us from lewdness . **** 21 www.ziaislamic.com
