3. Facing the Giants
2 Corinthians 4:17-18
17. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving
for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
18. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what
is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is
unseen is eternal.
You have to face the giants in the life’s journey. You
cannot escape the giant. When we look in the time of
Israel we see that the giants lived in the land and now
we see no more giants living on the earth. But now we
have to face the giants in our lives internally and not
externally. When the people of Israel entered the land of
kadesh and were about to enter the Promised Land 12
spies went to survey the land and 10 spies said “NO”
and 2 spies said “YES”. The question is do you want to
be with the majority or with the “TWO” which means in
our lives “GOD and You” and that means “JESUS and
You” and you really don’t need the 10. You just need
God and yourself to face the giants and nothing else.
The 10 spies said we can’t enter the land. It is
impossible and if we enter they will destroy us but the 2
spies said with God we can. What ever may be your
struggles, difficulties you can overcome them and that is
what the Word of God teaches us.
3
4. Facing the Giants
The difference between the 10 and the 2 was that
everyone saw the same things. Like wise every person
see the same things in life many times but the
difference is what you see from your heart. The thing
which matters is what you see internally i.e what you
see from your heart which means seeing god in that
situation. The 10 saw God in the light of their
circumstances and the 2 saw circumstances with the
light of God. This is what we need to do because we will
always face giants. There is no way of escaping them.
Many times we face giants and turn away from them
and run away. We see ourselves very small and the
giants so big.
Many times we want to run away from our giants in our
life. But the only difference between success and failure
is the attitude towards it. Our attitude at the
beginning of a task affects its outcome more than
anything else. Our attitude can turn problems into
blessings. Our attitude is not automatically good even
though we believe in God. Our wrong attitudes have to
be corrected and changed in the process of our life. To
really face the giants our attitude has to be developed
as we look to God. So when facing giants it is God and
yourself.

Facing the GIANTS while learning from the ANTS
We need to learn from the ants as we face our Giants. In
a beautiful way King Solomon gave instructions and
related these truths from the way ants do from
Proverbs 6: 6-8
Ants have no commander, ruler, overseer, supervisor to
give instructions as to what they should do which means
all by yourself. You don’t need anybody else. You just
need God and yourself.
Proverbs 6: 6-8
6. Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be
wise!
7. It has no commander, no overseer or ruler,
8. Yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its
food at harvest.
You know what to do and when. It is beautiful to see the
ants how they gather the food they need. If any ant
finds any food they inform other ants and together they
carry it into the small hole. God gave them wisdom and
knowledge.

6. Facing the Giants
1. Facing the GIANTS of a fall or failure
with a Purpose
To begin with for some Giants can be to be in time to a
place or office etc, For some it is their Health, for some
it is their finances, for some it is obeying God or
witnessing for Christ, for some it is praying in a
congregation etc but all these have to be faced with a
purpose. It says that the book is not yet complete with
people who face the giants.
RH Maise one of the biggest chain of stores in America.
They failed seven times before the store was a big hit in
New York.
English Novelist John Greece got 733 rejections slips
before publishing 554 books.
Beethoven a violinist handled the violin in a wrong way
and preferred to play his own compositions instead of
improving his skills. His teacher called him hopeless as a
composer yet he became one of the best composers.
Walt Disney was fired by a news paper editor for lack of
ideas. He went bankrupt several times before he built
the Disney land.
6
7. Facing the Giants
You cannot make an excuse to face the giant but it is a
reality to face with a purpose. If you don’t face it, it
brings disaster. The giants are there and God is not
going to chase them away from you but you have to
face the giants and he will give you the grace and ability
to face them if you are in his will.
The important thing in the midst of all these to
understand the reality as you face you failure with a
purpose. The reality is that we fail many times and
every one of fail an to face the reason of the failure.
7
8. Facing the Giants
2. Face the reason for the fall or failure
We see that failure is temporary and that we may
ultimately be successful. 2 Corinthians 4: 17-18 says
these are momentary troubles. The reason for failure or
facing the giants may seem a failure because of the
following
1. Secret of Self: We have too many secrets and that’s
why we fail many times. They are our distractions,
desires, selfish motives etc.
2. Strategy of Satan: Satan is a devouring lion. He
seeks to deceive and devour us and so he makes us fall
as we face the giants.
3. Surrounding situations: Our surrounding
situations, difficulties make to give up. These make us
weak. We look at situations and give up in first place.
God is asking us not to look at the failure but to look to
succeed which is important in life. We fail temporally to
succeed eternally. We fail outwardly to succeed
inwardly.
Peter Marshal said “It is better to fail in a cause then
ultimately succeed then to succeed in a cause that will
ultimately fail.”
8
9. Facing the Giants
3. Face the results of failure
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we
are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed
day by day. 2 Corinthians 4: 16
1. Do not lose Heart: When David faced goliath he told
people not to lose heart. When we fail at different
occasions or situation do not lose heart. God is testing
our heart and not our head. When we fail we do all kinds
of things because we are upset in our head. Failure is
like a nail going through us and it pains a lot and others
also. So we need to face God.
2. Seek the face of the Lord: “If my people, who are
called by my name, will humble themselves and pray
and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then
will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will
heal their land.’ 2 Chronicles 7: 14
We see in the bible that David always says seek the face
of God many times in psalms. When facing a giant with
a purpose seek the face of God. Seek to encounter God.
3. Face the giant with priority: The priority is that we
have to admit that we cannot face the giant on my own.
9
10. Facing the Giants
Failure is an incident, not a person, never say you are a
failure. We may fail to do a particular job but that does
not make a person a failure. You cannot call anyone a
failure. This is what we mistakenly do. We call people
failure. Proverbs 24:16 says “For though a righteous
man falls seven times, he rises again.”
One person said spiritual journey is falling many times
and getting up on our way to heaven.
In 2 Chronicles 20:12 it is said “O our God, will you not
judge them? For we have no power to face this vast
army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do,
but our eyes are upon you.” King Jehoshaphat faced God
before facing the enemies. God said go out and face the
enemies tomorrow. If you are not facing God you cannot
face people or Giants. You have to fight with a priority.
Accept failures as a fact of life and not as a way of life.
Failure is an event and not a person. Failure is
something that happens and not someone you become.
10
11. Facing the Giants
4. Avoid Judging Failure in others
As you fight the giants of failure with priority we need to
realize that we need to avoid judging failures in others.
Romans 15: 1 says “We who are strong ought to bear
with the failings of the weak and not to please
ourselves.”
We need to realize who is the failure. We ought to bear
the failures of others. We need to arise from failure and
start again. The prodigal son said I will arise and go.
Jesus said to Paul arise and get up. God is telling when
you face a giant of failure the answer is arise and get
up.
11
12. Facing the Giants
5. Fortify yourself against the giant
of failure with a plan
We need to plan to cope up with our problems,
situations and need to understand what we can do and
in facing the giants we need to fortify our self with a
plan with the following.
1. Pray: Ask God for help. He will not fail you. God will
not fail his people. People may fail us but God will never
fail you as you look to him
As you face the Giants of failure or fight the giants of
failure realize that God will never fail you. Pray and ask
God. Tell people that God will not fail you and you need
to experience this.
2. To ponder on God’s word: In difficult days of
failure we need to hear word of God. We need to heed to
the word of God and we need to hold the word of God.
Proverbs 6:20 says “My son, keep your father's
commands and do not forsake your mother's teaching.”

spies went to survey the land and 10 spies said “NO”
and 2 spies said “YES”.
3

God gave them wisdom and
knowledge.

6
7
44. Facing the Giants
2. Face the reason for the fall or failure
We see that failure is temporary and that we may
ultimately be successful. 2 Corinthians 4: 17-18 says
these are momentary troubles. The reason for failure or
facing the giants may seem a failure because of the
following
1. Secret of Self: We have too many secrets and that’s
why we fail many times. They are our distractions,
desires, selfish motives etc.
2. Strategy of Satan: Satan is a devouring lion. He
seeks to deceive and devour us and so he makes us fall
as we face the giants.
3. Surrounding situations: Our surrounding
situations, difficulties make to give up. These make us
weak. We look at situations and give up in first place.
God is asking us not to look at the failure but to look to
succeed which is important in life. We fail temporally to
succeed eternally. We fail outwardly to succeed
inwardly.
Peter Marshal said “It is better to fail in a cause then
ultimately succeed then to succeed in a cause that will
ultimately fail.”
8
9
10
God is telling when
you face a giant of failure the answer is arise and get
up.
11

17. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving
for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
18. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what
is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is

You have to face the giants in the life’s journey. You
cannot escape the giant. When we look in the time of
