3. Sam Raimi
Sam Raimi directed such films as:
Spider Man
Spider Man 2
Spider Man 3
Evil Dead
Evil Dead 2
His films are certainly entertaining if nothing else. Sam leaves us with
five simple tips.
1. Make a movie every week.
Sam believes that the only way to really get good at your craft is to do
it constantly. You’re not going to learn how to make movies from
reading books or going to school. Sure, you need some basic training,
but the only way you’re going to get good is to do it…constantly.
2. Write every night.
Just like with making movies, you have to keep writing. You have to
learn how to work through writer’s block. Again, the only way you’re
going to get good at this is to do it on a regular basis.
Also, by writing every night, you keep the flow of the movie going.
Imagine how hard it is to pick up from your last scene if you haven’t
worked on the script in 5 days. Writing every night keeps the
momentum going as well as the continuity.
3. First Weekend – Shoot For 2 Days
The first weekend of shooting your movie, shoot for two days. Don’t
worry about anything else but shooting the scenes with the actors
going through their parts.
4. Second Weekend – Put Sound And Music To Film
Why do you think he has you wait until the second weekend to put
sound and music to the film? Simple, because this gives you time to
refresh your brain. You’re going to be worn out from the 2 day shoot
and will need time to be able to look at what you’ve done with a fresh
4. perspective. Don’t try to put sound and music to the shoot
immediately after.
5. Show Film And Get Audience Response
This is critical. You’re going to not want to do this for fear of rejection,
but you MUST get your film in front of people to see what works and
what doesn’t work. That is the only way to find out.
You then repeat this same process, week after week, after week.
Eventually, you will get really good at this with all the experience
you’re getting.
No, nothing beats experience.
5. Some Final Words
Naturally, the film makers mentioned in this report are the best of the
best. But they didn’t get there overnight. Nobody, not even Hitchcock,
was born with these smarts. They had to develop them just like
everybody else.
Below, you will find a great resource that, while it might not make you
the next Hitchcock overnight, will certainly give you the kind of
foundation you need to develop into a truly great film maker someday.
Here is the site so you can check it out.
