Hi! My name is Karla Juetten and this is Podcasting 101. If you are here to learn about podcasting in the classroom, then you are in the right place. If that was not your original intention, perhaps God has a plan for you.
One thing that is certainly true about technology is that it is continually changing. Right out of college I worked for a computer consulting company, writing computer programs to handle long distance call plans. Now we have cell phones, I remember carrying my “PC” to work with a luggage cart because it was so heavy. I used a typewriter to type my college term papers. parenting, teaching history, my tech support.
My children’s experience with technology is drastically different. In this day and age, our students are using technology in many ways. It is a common everyday part of their life. Podcasting is an easily integrated instructional technique that connects to the technology enriched world in which they live and engages them in learning. Let’s take a look at the big picture.
In this videoa by edutopia, it notes that technology is more than a tool for our students. It changes the way they view the world. They are the digital generation. You may have heard the terms digital immigrant and digitial native that Marc Prensky coined in 2004.

We have moved from using the internet or web as primarily an information source for published content to an internet or web in which we actively participate. In 1996, the web served 45 million users and today serves over 1 billion. Increasingly what is published on the web is generated by the web users themselves. Podcasting is one of the ways you and/or your students can participate in the digital world. Web 1.0 = read only Web 2.0 = read/ write

When you create your podcast, a code is created. Depending on where you post your podcast, parents can subscribe and receive notice of any new podcasts. This also works for a blog. Most email providers allow you to create a list of podcasts you follow, like a favorites list - gmail.
