The document proposes an Integrated Replication and Consistency Maintenance (IRM) mechanism for peer-to-peer file sharing systems. IRM aims to integrate file replication and consistency maintenance in a systematic way to improve system performance. It replicates files to nodes that request the file most frequently and removes underutilized replicas. For consistency maintenance, IRM uses adaptive polling, where nodes poll file owners to check for updates at a frequency based on the file's update rate, to ensure timely updates while reducing unnecessary polls. Experimental results show IRM reduces query latency and provides high file fidelity with lower overhead compared to separate replication and consistency mechanisms.
