2. What is SUCCESS????????...........
To be clear about what success is must be the first step to achieve
success. Before you can achieve success, you need to define what
success means to you. Unless you have a clear vision of what
success is to you, you cannot work towards it. Success means different
things to different people. For some, monetary reward is a measure of
success. Yet others have multiple definition of success. The best
definition of success is:quot;Success is the completion of anything
intended.quot; In other words success is finishing what you planned to do.
Some other definitions of success could be quot;Achieving your goals” or
quot;Fulfilling your potentialquot;. An interesting answer to our question could
be success is quot;Making others jealousquot;. What’s the difference between
those people who build successful lives and those who often fail? What
do those successful people have that’s different from everyone else? Is
it luck? …Or is it something else? What’s the key to success? Or
what are the ingredients of the recipe called SUCCESS?
The Different Areas
They measure it across a few areas. It can be career, health, spiritual,
emotional, time or financial. As an example, one can be successful in
one’s career but not emotionally. Of course, this list isn’t exhaustive -
so you can add areas that are relevant to you. To find your own
definition of success you need to dig deep within yourself and question
your values in life. What are your strengths and weaknesses? What are
the things that are important to you? By answering these questions
3. you can then come closer to your own definition of success. Be aware
that this can be a long process. You may not get the answers so
quickly. But it is alright. Define your measure of success, one at a time.
Let’s take your career as an example. What would your definition of
success be for your career? To make the managerial level by a
specified time? Then dig deep to see what are your own strengths and
weaknesses. Which would help you achieve it. Which of your weakness
is a barrier, and does it go against your values?
It Is A Journey
When defining your success, remember this important thing. Success is
a journey. It has multiple peaks and not one ultimate pinnacle. One
success builds on another. Setbacks and mistake will also help you
build success. At different periods of your life, success is defined
differently. In our career, at a more junior level, your success can be
defined by exceeding your job requirements or getting a promotion. Or
success can be defined in a few respects. They can be:
1. Your relationship with your boss;
2. Your relationship with your peers;
3. Your dealing with other departments; and
4. Your learning curve.
4. Components of Success……
1. Happiness
Happiness as a felt emotion is defined as feelings of pleasure or
contentment about your life. If you are happy, then you feel warm
and fulfilled, at least for the moment. When you feel successful, then
that happiness is tied to the success and can thus be a long-lasting
period of contentment.
2. Achievement
Achievements are accomplishments such that goals we have set
ourselves are achieved. As we socially construct our selves, they
usually compare favorably against similar goals of other people.
In particular we feel a greater sense of achievement when we have
worked hard to achieve a stretching goal where we and others were
not sure that it would be possible to meet that goal.
3. Significance
We feel a sense of our own significance when we have made positive
impact on other people we care about. The sense of significance grows
5. with the size of the impact and the number of people affected. Thus if
I save the world (or maybe just the whales) I will feel pretty
significant.
4. Legacy
Our sense of legacy has to do with what we leave behind us. Most of
all, if we can establish values that to help others find future success,
then we will feel a strong sense of success.

Many people believe that success results from possessing a natural
born talent. Natural talent never hurt anyone, but it is a mere drop in
the bucket when it comes to why some people succeed and others do
not. Let’s consider what really brings about success in life? Our society
has an unspoken definition of success that tends to focus on external
appearances. Yet, clearly success is a personal matter and resides
in the eye of the beholder. For instance, one person might dream of
becoming an Olympic star and could care less about financial security.
Another person might want to become a medical researcher who
discovers a cure for a troubling disease. For these individuals, success
might come through physical prowess or through cognitive excellence.
One has to follow a strategic approach to be successful. Success
defines what we intend to achieve or the achievement of goal. So
following parameters defines our path or our strategy to success.
Goal setting

6. Goal setting is the very first step towards success. Till the time we
don’t know what we want to achieve, how will we proceed further to
achieve it. Goal setting is the foundation for personal and business
success. Goal setting enables you to achieve your dreams and achieve
your resolutions. Goal setting is the framework for success. Goal
setting is the fuel that flames your onward progress. But just to have a
Goal is not enough. Our Goal should be definite. The Goal should be
smart enough to achieve. It should be chosen according to our abilities,
availability of resources, time-constraints, area of interest and various
other features that define achievability of our goal. As we said our Goal
should be smarter, it implies that our goal should be:
S – Specific
M – Measurable
A – Achievable
R – Realistic
T – Time-Bound
E – Emotionally Intelligent
R – Resources Specific
• Commitment
Without a commitment to one’s dream, purpose, or goal, many
people’s skills are wasted. We never even discover what we’re capable
of doing unless we truly push ourselves. It takes a genuine belief in
what we are doing and an unwavering commitment to obtain a feeling
7. of personal success. Too often, people give up for many reasons: it is
too difficult, they are lazy, they lack a belief in themselves or their
abilities, etc. Yet, all of these excuses can be addressed when an
individual decides to commit. A commitment comes with a
conscious decision to value one’s life. Sometimes faith in a higher
power plays a role in helping people take this important step. Once a
true commitment to succeed has been made, a sense of internal
motivation causes changes to occur: difficulties become a challenge to
overcome; laziness evaporates under the focus of following
one’s dream; and a disbelief in oneself transforms through
small, consistent steps forward toward a positive sense of self-
worth.
• Time Management
Time is something that you can never take back.
What’s done is done. Nothing in history can be changed. The most we
can do about anything that has already been done is to take counter
measures to prevent the damage from spreading. However, there is
one more effective way to stop the damage and that is to prevent it.
You must have heard it said that “Prevention is better than cure.” This
quote is most often used in terms of illness; however, this can also be
done for future mistakes. Time management is a form of prevention.
Why is time management so important? Time is the most important
commodity. Time never comes back. It never rewinds like videotape.

Here are the most common reasons why time is so important:
1. Time cannot be stored
Everyone no matter how rich or poor spends time the same way, it
doesn't speed up for the rich and slow down for the poor. Time
management is equal to wise usage of time. This may be the difference
between fame and failure.
2. Time is rare
Yes, everybody has the same number of hours, but haven't you noticed
that people are complaining that they don't have enough of it? There is
just “so little time and so much to do” that people go out of focus. Time
management means giving importance to priorities and nearer
deadlines and these give you enough for the crucial activities in life.
3. Time is needed for everything
Everything takes time; everything needs time to materialize. With time
management, each task is given enough time to be finished. By giving
a sliver of time for each of your goals and accounting for it wisely, you
will be able to achieve them, plus make time for rest. Truth is, even
little time produces work. If distributed wisely throughout the day or
week, you would be surprised to how much you can accomplish.

to worry about the next thing that you will do. With time management,
you become more organized and the things you do become more
habitual than panic-driven. By making it a habit, you become more

In modern times, each product, place, or gadget has minute
differences that make it very hard for you to choose. There are so
many opportunities to choose from as to what to do with your time. By
having a plan, you will be able to make intelligent choices. By
becoming more conscious of the available time and the choices you've
made so far, you focus more on your priorities rather than useless
work.
Time management is indeed a gem. Once it becomes a habit, it
will be more beneficial than time-consuming.
10. • Optimism
The principles of success require that we maintain an optimistic
mindset. Negative life experiences take their toll, leaving us more
conservative, fearful, and less trusting as time passes. This trend
seems to worsen with age, causing many to lose the fresh and
optimistic expectations that come more naturally to the young. As we
grow older, more than ever, we will need to push ourselves to
overcome negative thinking. This conservative and more fearful
approach results in a need for predictability and habit. We see people
choose the comfortable and known path, rather than venture out or
attempt change, even when it is far less than they want..
11. Managed failures exist in relationships, in career, and in
health matters. Fear of attempting something different,
or even believing they can have something different
based on past experience, causes people to hang onto
undesirable circumstances. The conditions afford safety,
if nothing else. And predictability and safety seems to
become more of a priority as we age.
Choose to learn from experience. With wisdom, alter self-
sabotaging choices and behaviors that bring about failure. Then,
armed with awareness and change, develop positive
expectations for success. Expect the best outcome, and believe in
miracles and luck with every risk and choice. No matter what has
passed before, always expect miraculous change in your life. Risk
success!
If you feel you have waited too long to create effective and satisfactory
change in your life in a particular area, you should belive that it is
never too late to alter that trend. The only reason it may appear to be
more daunting is because your patterns, most notably your thinking
patterns, are more habituated. There is nothing more worthwhile than
love, happiness and success, at any stage in life.

“It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out
how the strong man stumbled, or where the doer of deeds
could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is
actually in the arena; whose face is marred by the dust and

short again and again; who knows the great enthusiasms, the
great devotions and spends himself in a worthy cause; who at
the best, knows in the end the triumph of high achievement,
and who, at worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly;
so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls
who know neither victory or defeat.
Do we need to say more? This means that the one doing the pursuing
WILL achieve. No, he may not reach what he aimed for ALL the time,
but hard work does pay off. In fact, isn’t it true that what we aimed for
at the beginning isn’t even close to what we end up at when we are
done. Those who work hard will not always succeed in the
world’s eyes, but they will always be successful. There is no
alternative to hard work. Constant and smart hard work always
ensures success.
Very often we can come across people saying “Hard work never kills
any one but why to take a chance.” But we should rather think that
hard work never fails any one so why not try.
13. • Believe on yourself
Self-belief and self-esteem are your secret allies. You've just got
to be able to turn them on and boost them when you need them
most. They are part of the armory of all people who achieve
great things. To win at anything in life, your greatest battle is
with yourself. Your most powerful enemy is within. Your greatest
ally is there also. The person who has the weapon to make you
win or lose is you. Your weapon is your mind. Your mental
approach makes you strong or weak, tough or flabby.
Conquering yourself is the ultimate challenge. Great self-
believers have the edge. They carry within a formidable
advantage over the average person. They know how to dig deep
and muster additional resources and back-up when called to.
They never lose. They always live to fight another day. They
always come through. Even if you identify yourself as one of the
great self-believers, you’ll still be eager to run a check on your
current levels to ensure you’re in peak condition! Self belief is
14. your secret ally. You've just got to be able to turn it on, boost it
when you need it most.
So just follow the path shown. Always believe that never it’s too
late. Today is the first day of your rest of the life. So give
your best, try hard and believe on yourself. Success will be all
yours. Success is creating what you want the way you want it to
be.It is, in fact, a journey. And, like all journeys, your ship will
sail through calm waters and buck in storms. If you stay on
course, continually upgrading your navigational instruments and
adjusting to feedback, you will reach your port of dreams.
Everyone has had the experience of shipwreck. Their most
cherished dreams collapsed despite their best efforts. The
difference between those who succeed in life and those who fail
are neither the number of shipwrecks nor the severity of the
storms. The difference is in their persistence. It takes persistence
to complete the journey. Some people choose to build one ship

Success, then, is a process. It is an incessant refinement of
strategy until something finally works. Success starts with goal
setting, and then goal setting is followed by action. Neither your
goal setting theory nor your actions have to be perfect. A key to
success is to start anywhere; over time, your vision will clear and
your actions improve.
Here is a simple but effective strategy.
1. Begin where you are with what you have right now.
2. Notice what is working and what is not working.
3. Keep trying out new things until you have better results.
4. Keep on adding what works and discarding what does not work.
5. Arrive at your goal.
