Show Your Girl Scout Pride
Wear your uniform
or pin on March 10 or 11
Did you know that March 12, 2011 will mark the 99th
year of Girl Scouting? To celebrate, all Girl Scouts (girls and
adults) are encouraged to wear their uniform or pin to school
or work on March 10-11 (the 12th is a Saturday). Let your friends
see how proud you are, and maybe if we all share our stories with
those who aren’t members, they will join us!
Plus, there’s even a fun patch you can earn just by showing your
Girl Scout pride! Patches are $1.25 each, and can be ordered by filling
out the order form found at kansasgirlscouts.org, or call a Girl Scout
office near you before March 31, 2011.
Let’s all show we’re GIRL SCOUT PROUD! Post your proud picture on
our Facebook page at facebook.com/ksgirlscouts.

5 Ways to Celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Month in April
Did you know that April is Volunteer Appreciation Month? We know you appreciate your Girl
Scout Leader (or other great Girl Scout volunteer) all year long, but April is a special time to
show them how much you care. Here are five ways to say “Thanks-a-Lot,” but we’re sure
you can think of many more!
♥ Write them a thank-you note. It’s a simple thing to do, but
means so much.
♥ Record a video of your troop telling them how much you
appreciate them.
♥ Bake them a cake—or cookies, brownies—you get the idea!
♥ Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper, and tell
them how great your leader is!
♥ Make up a skit or song with your troop, and act it out for
your leader (make sure it includes the words “Thank You”
a lot!)
Do a Good Turn for Goodwill
Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland and Goodwill Industries of Kansas are
joining together for the Good Turn for Goodwill Girl Scout Donation Drive
in March, 2011. Girl Scouts and Girl Scout Troops are encouraged to
participate in this community service project on behalf of Goodwill and
their community. This is a fun and simple event that allows Girl Scouts
to give back to their communities by collecting material donations for
Goodwill Industries.
The donated items collected during this event are then sold in Goodwill
Retail Stores. The funds generated will provide local jobs and funding for
programs (i.e. employment and training programs) and services offered
by Goodwill to people with disabilities and barriers to employment.
• Registration Deadline: March 7
• Distribute donation bags/flyers throughout your communities beginning March 26.
• Pick-up donated items and drop-off to Goodwill on Saturday, April 9.
Following the completion of this service project, each Girl Scout will receive a patch for their involvement, and all
participating troops/groups receive a certificate of appreciation. To register, visit kansasgirlscouts.org. To find a Goodwill
location near you, visit goodwillks.org/locations.

Brownie Troop #20650 from Beloit, Kansas recently completed several blankets for the Project Linus chapter in Salina Region
Hays, KS. For the past 4 years this troop has been making blankets and completing this project. “The girls can’t wait
to get started each year,” said Troop Leader Terry Clingman.
The blankets are given to children who are ill. Project Linus’ mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and
comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets
and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.” For more information, visit www.projectlinus.org. The site has
a pattern for the blankets, if you are interested in this project for your own troop or family. Chapman Juniors Complete Eco-Related Badgework
