The importance of adopting mobile technology in real estate. Mobile technology has changed the way people search for homes. As experts in our field we need to understand the benefits and leverage mobile.

3. It amazes me when I think about how far mobile technology has progressed, and how much it has impacted
our lives -- both on a personal and business level.
10. 2011 was called a pivotal year for mobile. For the first time, smartphone sales exceeded PC sales. This was
expected, but it happened well ahead of analysts’ predictions. In November 2010 Morgan Stanley stated in
a report that it would take until the end of 2012 for smartphone sales to outpace PC sales. Little did they
realize it would only take three more months for it to become a reality.

In the US we’ve already passed the tipping point. According to a Nielsen study released in July, 55% of US
mobile phone users own a smartphone. With two-thirds of new mobile phone buyers purchasing
smartphones, and half of “dumb” phone users purchasing smartphones when upgrading, it’s expected that
smartphone ownership will reach at least 60% by the end of 2012.

Smartphone users are quickly closing the gap on the number of PC users, with nearly 150 million users
expected by the end of 2012.

And we can’t forget about tablet users who will have almost tripled in the past year alone. Tablet users
grew from 28M in 2011 to an estimated 74M in 2012. A projected 117M tablet users are expected in 2013,
which will equate to 47% of Internet users in the US.
14. Apple and Android have emerged as the leaders of both smartphones and tablets, holding an approximate
90% combined marketshare in each arena. This means there is a better than 1 in 2 chance that the next
person you meet owns an iPhone or Android phone, and (in 2013) a nearly 1 in 2 chance that they own an
iPad or Android tablet.
15. As a Realtor® , we need to understand how our clients are using their mobile devices, be able to educate
them on how mobile devices can enhance their search for real estate, and how we ourselves can use mobile
devices to be more productive and efficient while on the go.
16. Originally, a Realtor® was the only way for people to get information about real estate -- details about the
property, comps, and what listings were available. This caused a bottleneck in the flow of information. It
was difficult not only for consumers to obtain information, but also for the agents to remember all of the
information and continually stay apprised of the market.
17. Public open houses changed the way people searched for real estate. With open houses people can see
first-hand what is available in their areas of interest. However, open houses are still an inconvenient way to
search for property. Not every available home is open, it’s frustrating following signs in search of open
houses, and homes that are open are only open one day a week (which is really three hours on Sunday).
18. The newspaper organized the way people search for real estate. With the newspaper people can quickly
see what homes are open, and plan their day and route accordingly. However, the newspaper is still an
inconvenient way to search for a home. Open house ad descriptions are short, and the photos (if there are
any) are usually small, grainy, and black and white.
19. The computer revolutionized how people search for real estate. Not only can you search all available
properties, people now have access to the complete MLS listing data, property details, neighborhood
information, market trends, and full color hi-res images. However, the computer is still inconvenient. In
order to search with the computer you must be sitting at your computer in your home or office.
20. Mobile devices changed that, and have again revolutionized how people search for real estate. You have
the Internet and all this information...
21. ...In your pocket, and with you at all times. It’s always available: anywhere, anytime.
22. Real estate apps and mobile web sites offer a new way for you and your clients to search for property.
People have quickly realized that smartphones are much more than just a phone.
23. In fact, with smartphones, it’s not surprising that making phone calls is only the 5th most frequent activity.
On average smartphone users spend more than 2 hours per day on their devices...

an hour and a half per day using mobile apps.

Millions of Tablet Users
With tablet users, an overwhelming majority use their device to access information. This includes
consuming content such as news, video, and sports...
26. ...As well as researching products and services. People with tablets are more inclined to reach for their
device to access this information over their desktop computers and laptops. People are changing their
behavior, using their mobile devices, and becoming accustomed to having information instantly available,
from anywhere, at anytime. This extends into real estate.
27. Properties Viewed Per Second
Realtor.com has experienced an explosion in mobile traffic. Over 32 properties are being viewed every
second with their mobile apps, representing a 4x increase over just a year ago.
28. In 2010 Prudential Locations recognized the significance of the mobile app trend and developed the first
app designed for the Hawaii real estate market.
29. 1 2 3
There are three major benefits to using our mobile real estate app.
30. 1
The first is the ability to search and locate nearby listings.
31. Using GPS the app is able to show all the properties for sale in your immediate area. You are also able to
pan and zoom the map, focusing on your areas of interest. This is extremely useful while you are on
showings with your client, or if your client is driving around a neighborhood they like.
32. You can also refine your search, showing only those properties that match your criteria. There is no longer
a reason to drive around aimlessly looking for open houses.
33. Our app also displays recently sold listings -- perfect for sellers who want to keep an eye on their
neighborhood or buyers who want to research comps.
35. If offers hi-resolution, full color images which allows you and your clients to preview properties outside of
open house hours.
36. You and your clients can view listing summaries at a glance, and add properties to a list of favorites.
37. Detailed MLS listing information is also available; and, as an agent, you have access to the Listing Agent ’s
contact information and private showing remarks. This is helpful for contacting an agent about a property.
38. 3
The third advantage is that the app ensures you are always with your client. When is the last time you left
home without your cell phone? When is the last time you think your clients left home without theirs? Each
time your clients go into their phone and see the app they will think of you – it ’s your virtual business card.
39. Your clients can contact you, instantly request additional information, and even send a showing request.
The app helps solidify the relationship between you and your clients.
40. As experts in our field we need to stay ahead of the consumer. If your clients aren ’t getting the information
from you, then they are getting it from someone, or somewhere, else. Why not make yourself invaluable by
offering the best resources available. Resources that will save them time and take some of the frustration
out of finding a home.
41. Prudential Locations real estate agents have quickly adopted mobile technology. The number of agents
actively using our mobile app has more than tripled, with an enormous rise during 2011.
42. Mobile technology has changed the way people access information, and has made searching for homes
even easier. Prudential Locations recognizes the importance and potential of this trend, and strives to
provides the best tools and expertise to leverage this technology.
