2. Drug Use
• Antimuscarinic
• Indications
Antisialogogue
Bronchial secretion reduction
Prevent cholinergic cardiac effects
Increase ventricular irritability assoc with acute MI and sinus bradycardia
Antidote for
Inadvertent overdose of cholinergic drugs
Cholinesterase poisoning such as organophosphorus insecticides
MAT1008 Presentation 2
3. Contraindications
• Do NOT administer if patient has:
Severe ulcerative colitis or Toxic megacolon complicating ulcerative colitis
GI obstruction
Closed angle glaucoma
Obstructive uropathy
Myasthenia gravis
MAT1008 Presentation 3
4. Tachycardia due to cardiac insufficiency
Thyrotoxicosis
Acute haemorrhage with unstable CV status
Fever
Prostate enlargement
Pregnancy induced hypertension
MAT1008 Presentation 4
8. Precautions
• Use with caution
adults over 40 years of age
Pregnant
Children
Lactating
Children with Down syndrome
• Glaucoma risk
• May convert partial organic pyloric stenosis into complete obstruction
MAT1008 Presentation 8
10. Conlusion
• Atropine Sulfate Injection is an antimuscurinic drug use for secretion
reduction.
• It is also an antidote for organophosphate poisoning. It is
contraindicated with patients with severe ulcerative colitis, GI
obstruction, glaucoma and pregnancy induced hypertension.
• The side effects are tachycardia, reduced secretion, urinary difficulty,
bronchial plug, photophobia, blurred vision and hot dry skin
• Use with caution to individuals who are over 40 years old, children
with down syndrome, lactating mothers and pregnant women

procedure?
2. What are the signs and symptoms to watch out if there is an

My presentation will be about Atropine Sulfate Injection Medication
Antimuscarinic is an agent that blocks the muscarinic receptors.
Antisialogogue is an agent that reduce or stops the flow of saliva
Obstructive Uropathy is a structural or functional interruption of normal urine flow
Tachycardia is fast heartbeat
Anticholinergic is a substance that blocks the neurotransmitter acetylcholine
Other anticholinergics
May increase vagal blockade
Antihistamines, antidepressants, antipsychotic, procainamide, quinidine, thiazides
May enhance atropine effects
Amantadine
Increase toxicity
Digitalis, cholinergics, neostigmine
Potential adverse effects
Bronchial plug occurs when bronchial secretions accumulate to the point that they obstruct airflow
Mydriasis is the dilation of pupil
Cyclopegia is the paralysis of ciliary muscle of eye
Pyloric stenosis is narrowing of the opening from stomach to the first part of small intestine because of pylorus enlargement
Right medication to right patient
Dose, Route, Time
Patient has the right to refuse
To sum up the atropine sulfate injection administration…
That is the end of my presentation, if you have questions you can rais your hand.
If you have none, I will be the one to ask you some questions.
