2. The purpose of my teaser
trailer and target audience
The purpose of my teaser trailer is to entice an
audience into watching the feature length film
when it comes out.
The target audience for the film would be a mass
audience with demographics such as a mostly
male audience with their age between 16-25.
Our audience would also be an active audience
who mainly live a normal lifestyle living on a
normal wage bracket and they could also have
experiences in the past involving bullying.
3. An active audience
I am taking the theoretical approach of the
audience being active as Andrew Hart said ‘the
meaning is not in the text, but in the reading.’ which
is true as we may have a meaning coming off of
our teaser trailer however with further reading from
the audience they can find more meanings and
theories relating to the text itself.
Stuart Hall came up with an audience encoding-
decoding model in which the directors intended
meaning is encoded based on his/her ideologies,
aims and intentions. Along with the technology
available to them. The audience then decode the
meaning based on their ideologies, aims and
intentions. Along with the technology available to
them.
4. Intended meaning of my teaser
trailer
The intended meaning of my teaser trailer is to entice
a specific target audience into getting involved in
the film campaign and wanting to watch the
feature length when it comes out.
For people who have been affected by bullying who
watch the teaser/film they could take a preferred
meaning in thinking that the way bullying is
represented is absolutely true and this is what has
happened to them. Others may take a negotiated
reading in which most cases of bullying showcased
are true however some might be too extreme. Then
there are people who could take a oppositional
reading and think that bullying like this isn’t
happening anymore and there are aspects of
bullying not being shown such as cyber bullying.
5. Conclusion
In conclusion I believe my groups teaser trailer is
successful in appealing to a target audience.
We wanted to mainly entice an audience of 16-
25 years old and after showing the teaser to
classmates they mostly liked the teaser and
would want to watch the feature length.
Looking at feedback they also mainly took a
preferred reading to the teaser with no
questions raised on the nature of how the
bullying was carried out in the trailer and agreed
that this could happen in real life.
