Classroom Designs
Students learn
from listening to
lectures.
Students DO NOT learn from lectures.
Learners teach
themselves;
teachers can’t
set goals.
Ideas to create a goal oriented learner-centered classroom:
o  "Let the book do the talking."
o  Widen the audience
o  Flip your classroom
o  Differentiate instruction
o  Have the students get up and move
o  Give the students jobs/roles
Fact: You CAN set goals.
Teachers should
never lecture;
direct instruction
is not important.
Fact: Sometimes a small lecture is the right
choice.
Other methods to consider:
o  Conceptual workshops
o  Experiential learning
o  Independent study
o  Interactive instruction
Variety is key.
When flipping,
teacher is not
engaged.
Teacher's primary responsibilities:
o  Listen to students
o  Ask questions
o  Design the experience
o  Give feedback
