3. + Introduction
The special studies module Exercise Physiology was a
research project comparing college student’s fitness and
health with those of primary school children. The study
involved some basic anthropometric measurements, a series
of simple exercises measuring aerobic fitness, reaction time,
flexibility, and strength plus an optional blood glucose test. The
participants in this study were voluntary subjects, tests
conducted were explained clearly and subjects were free to
withdraw from the study at any time.
4. +
Introduction
The objectives of this study was:
To assess and compare general health & fitness of children and
college students
To compare upper and lower body flexibility of school children
& college students
To compare anthropometric measurements and aerobic fitness
between school children and college students
To compare strength between school children and college
students
5. +
Introduction
Before tests were undergone legal documents (parent and
collage student consent forms) and questioners regarding the
health and fitness of subjects were collected.
Consent forms allowed second year medical students carryout
tests willingly
Questioners provided a guideline into subjects diet and the
amount of physical activity a subject undertakes

Procedures
College Students – second year medical student, no specific date
was set for the assessment. Student came in during the allocated
SSM times
Primary School Students - On 29th March 30 students volunteered
from xxxxx, they were split into 3 groups of 10. Each cohort
undertook the set of tests within a 45 minute rotation.
Participants were expose to:
a) Physiological measurements including height, weight, Blood
glucose, Resting heart rate & Blood Pressure
b) Subjects were asked to perform a series of exercises assessing
upper and lower limb flexibility, strength and aerobic fitness.
C) Specific physiological measurements will then be retaken: e.g
blood glucose, Heart rate, blood pressure.

Procedures
The tests chosen to conduct this study include:
Plank/Core Test
Jump Test
Sit and Reach Test
Shoulder Flexibility Test
Step Test
Trunk Rotation Test
Reaction Time Test
Glucose Tests
Anthropometric Measurements
9. +
Procedures
From the following tests we assessed strength, flexibility, aerobic
fitness
Strength was measured by comparing plank and jump tests
to flexibility, diet and aerobic fitness
Flexibility was weighed by comparing sit and reach test to
diet, sleep patterns and fitness
Aerobic fitness was evaluated by comparing the step test to
diet, sleep patterns and strength
Anthropometric measurements taken to record the physical
variance
