About us
"NRG Laser Projectors Exploiting the Power of Light"
Our founder Gary Morris at the young age of 8 started to experiment with electricity much to his
parent's displeasure. After building go-karts that went up hills and nearly killing himself on the
way down having neglected to fit any breaks, he decided to move on to bigger and better
things.
After having worked a number of years in the electronics industry building test equipment for
the new age computer chips for Amstrad, Sinclair and the BBC Acorn computer he choose to it
alone. His first contract was to build a laser range finder and that's when he fell in love with
lasers. Not sure if it was the unique appearance of a single straight spectacular beam seeming
to go on for all infinity. After that he set up a company GSM Design which later on in 1988
became Laser Science.
A small production on HeNe laser display projectors started in the north of England with an
awesome power of almost MW and available in any color as long as it was red selling at just
£175. The unit had a 2000V power supply and wasn't very forgiving when getting a bit careless
aligning the mirrors.
Incidentally those glass tube gas filled HeNe lasers needed 10000V jump start to get the
plasma going. It took about 10 years before the semiconductor laser diodes came on the scene
and mostly from the USA and Japan. At that time a 30mW single color green laser sold for
£3000. It wasn't long before the Chinese jumped on the band wagon and 5mW laser diode
'crab' light show projector systems started pouring out of China for less than $20USD retail.
