2. History
• Since being formed as an Australian children's
charity in 1988, the ‘startlight children
foundation’ has brightened the lives of incredibly
ill and hospitalised children and families though
out Australia.
• Living day-to-day with a serious illness or injury
causes enormous strain in the lives of families
and their children. The loneliness, isolation and
the pain that ill children feel takes over their
lives, as a result of this they often miss out on
normal experiences that healthy children take for
granted.
3. Purpose
• The ‘Starlight foundation’ provides programs to
help with the total care of seriously ill children.
While health professionals focus on treating the
illness, the Starlight foundation is there to
brighten the spirits of the child, giving them the
opportunity to laugh, play, and be a child again.
• The Starlight foundation is dedicated to
improving the quality of life for chronically ill
children
4. Employers
• At the foundation there are 5 departments
that have paid employees. They are:
operation and
finances, programs, partnerships, marketin
g and campaigns, and people and culture.
• The foundation also relies on volunteers
from across the world.
5. In charge?
• Starlight foundation was founded by
Emma Samms, and her cousin Peter
Samuelson.
• Starlight CEO is Louise Baxter, who is in
charge of most things today in regard to
the foundation
6. Methods of raising
money
• The foundation relies on monthly donations but
does not recieve any government founding and
relies primarily on support, donations and
volunteers.
• Corporate ideas: Sell merchandise in the office or
host Star party for charity (all proceeds go to
Starlight foundation)
• School ideas: Have a fancy dress day, sausage
sizzle, sell merchandise, or colouring in
completion at school (all proceeds go to Starlight
foundation)
• General public ideas: Set up personalised
donation page, buy merchandise, and give a friend
a donation gift.

• The foundation has offices located though
out the US with headquarters located in
Los Angeles, California.
• The foundation has offices located in
Canada, the UK, Australia and Japan

• The Starlight foundation was founded in
response to Emma Samms younger
brother Jamie dying at age 9 from aplastic
anaemia
• A child is admitted to hospital in Australia
every minute of every day, for thousands
of these children the diagnoses of a
serious or life-threatening illness is
detected.
