Quick Response Codes
Some examples of QR code uses.
These funny looking barcodes are called Quick Response Codes or QR Codes / QRC’s. They have been used on billboards by Calvin Klein, and in NYC’s Times Square to pub 311 – a phone number used in NYC to report something or to get information. Allows you to put a “link” on anything to be scanned.
QR Codes allow you to store information inside the graphic that is accessible using a scanner on your phone. Essentially, it’s like being able to put a link on anything! Some of the apps that I have used to scan QR Codes are: ScanLife and Google Goggles.
This is the Catawba County EcoComplex. We turn our county’s garbage into fuel. Throughout the complex there are several different areas of interest. The current problem is that the public / visitors do not know what all the different areas do. So we are going to place QR Codes at the different areas to allow folks to scan them with their phones and then view more information on a website.
Another area that we are thinking about using QR Codes are on our Building Permits. By placing a QR Code on the Building Permit, any contractor with a Smartphone can scan the code and then gather more information about that particular permit….while on the work site.
