Drupal is modular, reusable and open source, but that's not the case for it's documentation. The documentation in code falls under the GPL license and we have a few angels that contribute to our community documentation but on the documentation that we make for our users and customers we are failing to collaborate. In this presentation I'll explain how we could turn documentation for open source projects into modular, reusable units on which we can collaborate. I'll explain what single sourcing is and how we could use it to make different types of documentation (e.g. manuals, help, training materials, training curricula, etc.) for different types of audiences from a single set of documents. I'll give an introduction to DITA (Darwin Information Type Architecture), an Oasis XML standard started at IBM and how it's used in industries with modular products to publish documentation in a range of formats in minutes in stead of days while saving up to 60% of translation costs. I'll also give a demonstration of the DITA Drupal module and explain how we want to make Drupal a platform for community authored DITA documentation that does not require knowledge about DITA from it's contributors.

Publishing Linked Open Data in a user-appealing way is still a challenge: Generic solutions to convert arbitrary RDF structures to HTML out-of-the-box are available, but leave users perplexed. Custom-built web applications to enrich web pages with semantic tags "under the hood" require high efforts in programming. Given this dilemma, content management systems (CMS) could be a natural enhancement point for data on the web. In the case of Drupal, one of the most popular CMS nowadays, Semantic Web enrichment is provided as part of the CMS core. In a simple declarative approach, classes and properties from arbitrary vocabularies can be added to Drupal content types and fields, and are turned into Linked Data on the web pages automagically. The embedded RDFa marked-up data can be easily extracted by other applications. This makes the pages part of the emerging Web of Data, and in the same course helps discoverability with the major search engines. In the workshop, you will learn how to make use of the built-in Drupal 7 features to produce RDFa enriched pages. You will build new content types, add custom fields and enhance them with RDF markup from mixed vocabularies. The gory details of providing LOD-compatible "cool" URIs will not be skipped, and current limitations of RDF support in Drupal will be explained. Exposing the data in a REST-ful application programming interface or as a SPARQL endpoint are additional options provided by Drupal modules. The workshop will also introduce modules such as Web Taxonomy, which allows linking to thesauri or authority files on the web via simple JSON-based autocomplete lookup. Finally, we will touch the upcoming Drupal 8 version. (Workshop announcement)

This presentation will discuss the Magnolia implementation for Manatee County Government. Manatee County Government implemented both an intranet and Internet site using Magnolia EE with a small internal IT Team and a core group of 38 content editors. Manatee County leveraged the flexibility of the Magnolia STK to get an intranet site up and running quickly (4 Months). The intranet site provided content for the County's 1600 employees and served as a learning tool for developers, administrators and content editors while the Internet Site was under development. Manatee County's new website now contains over 1,500 pages edited by 150 individuals from 17 County Departments. The site has multiple integration points with existing County information. Touch points include ESRI Mapping data, Oracle Enterprise data and Lotus Domino databases. The discussion will focus on the Integration opportunities of County information into the STK.

- Frederik Seyns, Intercommunale Leiedal KPLO | start met kennisdelen over de grenzen heen Op donderdag 14 juni organiseert V-ICT-OR vzw een studiedag rond kennisdelen over de grenzen heen. Dit event kadert in het KPLO-project dat kennisdelen tussen ICT’ers uit lokale besturen aanmoedigt en faciliteert. Vandaar ook de rode draad: “Start met kennisdelen over de grenzen heen!” In de voormiddag staan een aantal boeiende sprekers op het programma van het kaliber van Peter Crombecq (Algemeen directeur Digipolis), Jan Braeckman (directeur BIBNet) en Ingrid Van den Berghe (Administrateur-generaal NGI) die elk hun eigenzinnige visie over kennisdelen uit de doeken zullen doen. Deze sprekers worden afgewisseld met een aantal korte sketches van het bedrijfstheater 12Act. Sketches die het publiek op ludieke wijze laten stilstaan bij herkenbare situaties op het werk. De voorgestelde mix zal zorgen voor de nodige “swung” en staat garant voor een levendige kennisdag. De voorzitter van dit dagdeel is Peter De Decker, Gentenaar, Ingenieur en volksvertegenwoordiger voor N-VA. Verwacht je alleszins niet aan een klassieke PowerPoint in een stoffige zaal! In de namiddag worden er 8 workshops georganiseerd waarin er dieper ingegaan zal worden op de vele facetten van kennisdeling. Van welke obstakels kennisdeling in de weg staan, over “open kennis”, “getting things done” en kwaliteitsmanagement, tot hoe nieuwe media en de organisatie-cultuur kunnen helpen. Voor elk wat wils! Deze kennisdag word georganiseerd in het kader van het KPLO-project. De afgelopen vier jaar heeft dit project de grenzen afgetast van wat kennisdeling kan en vermag. KPLO staat voor Kennisplatform Lokale Overheden en is een samenwerkingsverband tussen V-ICT-OR, VVSG, ICMS, Deloitte en wordt gesubsidieerd door EFRO en het Agentschap Ondernemen. We hebben kennismanagement getest en gewogen, de band tussen offline en online kennisdeling verkend. We hebben meer dan 15 regionale kennissenkringen opgericht of verenigd. Als kennis delen de eerste vorm van samenwerken is, dan ziet de toekomst er goed uit en kunnen we wellicht meer en beter.”

Presentatie voor de studiedag "De elektronische overheid" op 24 februari in Leuven. Anno 2011 is een overheid zonder ICT stilaan ondenkbaar geworden. De voorbije jaren hebben informatie- en communcatietechnologieën immers een belangrijke positie ingenomen binnen de publieke sector. Overheden zijn online aanwezig via websites, wisselen onderling informatie uit via netwerken, en verwerken deze informatie intern via tal van systemen en toepassingen. Zowel voor hun interne werkzaamheden als voor hun relaties met externe partijen maken overheidsorganisaties dus steeds nadrukkelijker gebruik van ICT. Naar de inzet van ICT en de organisatorische en bestuurlijke veranderingen die daarmee gepaard gaan, wordt verwezen met het concept ‘e-government’, oftewel ‘de elektronische overheid’. Daarbij wordt ook vaak gewezen op het evolutionair karakter van het fenomeen e-government: bestaande technologieën worden op een steeds meer geïntegreerde en effectieve manier ingezet, en nieuwe technologieën bieden zich aan. Tijdens deze studiedag willen we de evolutie van e-government in België van naderbij bekijken. We maken hiervoor gebruik van de kennis, de ervaringen en de inzichten van verschillende deskundigen uit de praktijk en de wetenschap. Op die manier maken we een stand van zaken van de ontwikkeling van e-government op verschillende bestuursniveaus en in verschillende domeinen. Welke e-government initiatieven werden op elk van deze bestuursniveaus en in elk van deze domeinen ontwikkeld? Wat zijn de basisprincipes en de bouwstenen van elk van deze initiatieven? En in welke mate hebben zij bijgedragen tot een beter presterende overheid?
