- Searching and discovering is easy to see in the current version of Profiles. Search for people with expertise, discover networks of which they are a part. Networking aspects will show up more in the future. You can customize your own profile to add information. You can customize your own profile to hide information (like your entire pubs list) Your department can easily take profile and publication information and customize to their own website New Functions coming soon: Searches will show university output by keyword/concept (e.g. the most recent papers from anyone at UCSF in a particular area) Networking applications will allow for mentor-mentee matchmaking both for faculty mentoring and student mentoring New Data: Bringing fellows and residents into the system. And more ... We do recognize that UCSF Profiles presents information in a new and more accessible way which elevates the exposure of this information. We continue to monitor for both positive and negative impact. Our goal is to continue to balance the benefits of displaying information in new and interesting ways with privacy and policy concerns We are not the first institution to do so. Harvard, Stanford and Johns Hopkins all have tools similar to UCSF Profiles, and we are building on their experience. \\ Publications: accuracy, completeness, representativeness Incorrect publications : pubs listed that don’t belong to the faculty member Incomplete list of publications “ Too complete” list of publications : pubs listed that the faculty member does not want displayed Limited publications source : Some researchers not well represented or misrepresented due to lack of publications related to, for example, social sciences and T2-related topics in PubMed However, there are many other data sources being explored including other bibliographic databases Additional data and publication sources Continue to work with all complementary databases and tools at UCSF Expand beyond PubMed First UCSF extension: Facilitating mentorship project Build upon Profiles for mentor-mentee linkages: faculty-faculty & faculty-student Working with Faculty Mentoring Program & Pathways Policy implications Continue to balance benefits of displaying information in interesting ways with privacy and policy concerns Continue to solicit and integrate input from UCSF leadership with cross-school representation
