- Taking the lead offer: The recent LG Group publication ‘Taking the Lead’ sets out local government’s approach to self-regulation and improvement, helping councils strengthen local accountability and revolutionise the way they evaluate and improve services. It is a core part of the LG Group’s offer to the sector and includes a range of tools and support for councils. As part of this we are developing the LG Inform service to post, access and compare performance information. Local accountability tools – new local assessment tool, free or subsidised support from the Centre for Public Scrutiny, other tools as appropriate – like YouChoose Peer challenge – free every three years Peer support – five days of free member peer support Knowledge Hub – bring together improvement resources online (Communities of Practice, resources, recommendations) Data and transparency – LG Inform Leadership support – one subsidised place at a leadership event each year for three years Learning and support networks – to share good practice and timely support

- The learning group authorities were selected not only because of interest in this area, but also to get a mix of types/ size/ geographical location and political mix, to ensure that when it is rolled out more widely other authorities feel that it would be something they would use as their needs will have been taken into account in the prototype development. They are helping us develop the tool, and providing user testing and feedback.

- What does it look like? This is the landing page: Dashboard, My reports, Browse Reports, Create, Metrics Library & Preferences……How does it work? In the metrics library you can pull out one of over 600 and get the detail. Here’s how information can be generated via the metrics library…
- Type in a metric and the system provides a suggested comparison group (can be changed if required)…..
- This is the data available against a comparison group....in this case English Counties showing where you sit.
- A map is provided showing quartiles as another view of the data.
- Finally a table of the data (can be extracted if required).
- In particular we want to make sure that the sector dashboard provides a credible showcase of what Inform can offer for the sector
