Create a Brilliant Portfolio
For portfolio, read resume, CV or profile; one or more of these will be needed to apply for any
position advertised, wherever it may be. This is the one piece of information a future employer
will judge you most harshly on and it needs to be the right information, presented in the best
way to illustrate your suitability for the role you are applying for.
Your portfolio will also be used to help demonstrate three things:
- Your skill set and levels of expertise are appropriate.
- You have experience.
- You are the type of person who will fit into an existing team.
LinkedIn will help you to do all of these activities and more if you use it to its fullest potential
with the following actions:
1. Ensure your profile is up to date, accurate and complete. Add a current photograph too.
2. Create an engaging and interesting headline to help differentiate you and demonstrate your
understanding of industry needs.
3. Consider adding links to any personal websites or blogs, especially if they are relevant to your
area of expertise.
4. Add presentations, videos, white papers and images you have created in the Summary,
Experience and Education sections of your profile (consider copyright issues and check with
your current employer before uploading, if you created them on their behalf).
5. Be active in groups, especially those containing key players in the companies you might like to
work with.
6. Respond to any questions asked in groups you belong to, especially where it can showcase
your knowledge and expertise.
