Christophe has played volleyball for years in a small club that will soon be holding its annual spaghetti fundraiser once again. He thinks that the fundraiser is a good initiative in itself, but he gets anxious at the very thought of the sheer number of tickets that they need to sell. However, he phones up a few acquaintances as he feels that the club also expects him to make an effort and he doesn’t want to disappoint anyone. Explanation of feedback for the Eco Attitude questionnaire Out of external obligation
Nathalie, one of Christophe’s friends, receives an invite to the spaghetti fundraiser. She actually doesn’t enjoy crowded club events like these, but she buys a ticket anyway and promises to go. Christophe also helped her out the last time she was looking for people to attend a charity event. She would feel guilty if she didn’t do anything for him in return. Explanation of feedback for the Eco Attitude questionnaire Out of external obligation Out of internal obligation
Christophe and Nathalie are motivated in a controlled way. They are not calling people up or going to a club event out of free will, but they do these things anyway because they feel forced by their surroundings or they feel obliged to do so themselves. They act because that have the feeling that they HAVE to act. Explanation of feedback for the Eco Attitude questionnaire Out of external obligation Out of internal obligation controlled motivation ‘ HAVING TO’ When we act out of a feeling of pressure, obligation or stress
Céline, Christophe’s mother, buys a number of cards straight away with the idea of asking several of her friends to go to the club event. She’s not particularly interested in the spaghetti fundraiser in itself, but she wants to go. She knows how important the sports club is to her son and she feels that it is important to offer her support where she can. Explanation of feedback for the Eco Attitude questionnaire Out of external obligation Out of internal obligation Out of personal conviction
Arthur, one of Christophe’s ex-teammates is incredibly excited by the invitation. He played for the club for many years but had to stop due to a serious injury. He finds club events like these a real pleasure to attend. He really enjoys being able to soak up the atmosphere once again, see his teammates and reminisce about old times. Explanation of feedback for the Eco Attitude questionnaire Out of external obligation Out of internal obligation Out of pleasure, passion, challenge Out of personal conviction
Céline and Arthur are motivated in an autonomous way. They choose to go to the club fundraiser completely of their own accord and do not consider it to be an obligation. They act because they WANT TO . Explanation of feedback for the Eco Attitude questionnaire Out of external obligation Out of internal obligation Out of pleasure, passion, challenge Out of personal conviction autonomous motivation ‘ WANTING TO’ When we act spontaneously, voluntarily and out of free will
