How to Load a Moving Truck
Moving is a big, big job. It is one of the most logistically
complicated tasks most people experience. Or at least that
is how it may seem at the time. A big worry is getting all
your stuff to your final destination in one piece. Packing the
moving truck takes a lot of careful planning. If you are
unsure of how to pack your moving truck, here are a few
pieces of advice.

Prepping the Truck
Before you load anything into the truck, you’ll want to lay down some plastic wrapping or tarps across
the floor to avoid dirt, splinters, and so on. Before you do, sweep it out if it looks especially dirty and
wipe down walls as well if they look dusty or dirty.

Wrap Everything
Before you load each piece of large furniture in, make sure it is ni cely wrapped up. Mattresses and
cushions can be put in large plastic bags/wrapped in plastic. You’ll want to wrap heavy wooden or metal
items in furniture pads or heavy paper padding. Large fragile items like mirrors can be wrapped and
placed in between mattresses for extra protection. Take special care of legs, protrusions, etc., that
could puncture holes in upholstery or scratch wood.

Big Things First
Load up your biggest, heaviest pieces of furniture first. You’ll want to put
the heaviest right in the back and line the sides with other heavy pieces in
order to disperse the weight. Dissemble large pieces of furniture if you
can, especially long protrusions like legs and bed posts.

Good Boxes
It’s best not to go for cheap grocery boxes or plastic totes. You don’t
want to open the back of the truck to find your plastic totes spilt and recycled
boxes smashed (along with their precious contents). Instead, invest in some moving
grade boxes. These boxes were designed to line up, stack well, and handl e rough moving trucks. This
will help you “square off” or pack your things neatly and tightly.

Use Fillers
The key to successful moving lies in packing tightly. There will doubtless be some empty spaces left
behind by oddly shaped furniture or lines boxes that don’t quite match perfectly side to side. To fill
these empty spaces, stuff in bags of clothing, stuffed animals, pillows, and other malleable items. Of
course make sure your fillers are wrapped up to keep from being torn or dirtied.

Take Care of Yourself
Most importantly, make sure you are moving everything properly. Use dollies, carts, leather gloves, and
so on. Make sure you wear solid shoes and clothes that aren’t likely to get caught on anything. Recruit
extra hands to lift heavy items. Always lift with your legs, not your back. If you need help organizing,
lifting, or anything, call a professional mover and have them help you. There are great moving
companies in Utah! There are movers in St. George, office moving companies in Salt Lake, and
everywhere in-between. Find the best moving company in Utah and enjoy a safe, successful move!
