1. ACTION RESEARCH
INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY
(Instructional and Organizational Leadership, Professional Development)
Part 1: Development of an organization chart integrating technology
Superintendant~ will follow the states Long Range Plan 2006-2010 while
implementing policy in his/her district. He will then refer to his technology staff for a
safe, financially applicable, that will move his district towards the states goals, always
with the student’s success in mind.
Technology~ highly trained, knowing the internet world, its pros and cons, and
necessary safety precautions needed. They will insure all is put in place, and kids’
safety is number one priority. Next priority would be to keep up with technologies ever-
changing world.
Campus Administrator~ Proactive leaders of his/her campus that will enforce
all district policies, and gain insights from technology crew, and be willing to ask for
insight or assistance if needed. Make sure that all staff are highly trained, and paint a
2. vision to pass off their knowledge and protocol to their students. Administrators will
maintain a strict abiding ethics and security for all staff and students. Every staff and
student will be fully aware of expectations, and vision when it comes to technology. You
been an advocate for training, and will encourage all staff to participate in professional
development opportunities. You will set training aside and make in mandatory for all
staff members.
Educators & Staff~ will educate our fast evolving students of technology. You
will learn from them as well, since they live and breathe technology. You will instill in
them Internet ethics and responsibility/ accountability, and most importantly internet
safety. You will have an active curriculum that is blueprinted with state mandates, but
enhanced dramatically with up-to-date technology. You will get up to date training to
keep up with the ever-changing use of technology; you will pursue growth in technology
Students~ will be challenged with rigor, and use prior knowledge and make real
world applications. You will use technology safety, and learn the ethics as you explore
the internet.
Continue Cycle~ Evaluation through State (STaR, AEIS) Districts (CIP) and
school survey of students and parents, then back through the cycle with improvements
and future evaluations of safe internet growth and development.
Professional Development Planning
1. SETTING THE FOUNDATION –
Goal/Vision ~ To establish a plan for gathering and analyzing, and using data from a
variety of sources for informed campus decision making focusing on integrating technology
in Instructional, organizational, and Professional development. The final step in the action
research is to Evaluate the process and Self Reflect, and diagnose any problematic areas
and maintain successes. Technology is a constant in our world today, we cannot ignore it,
if we intend on making our students lifelong learners, on target, and prepared to enter job
forces or post secondary education. Staff can no longer refuse or avoid technology it must
be ingrained and immersed into our curriculum regularly, but with precautions and promote
ethical code of conduct, which is established first by our staff by modeling for our students
and a premise to all technology growth and development.
** Stakeholders (Administrators, Staff, Educators, Parents and Community)
Steps
1. GATHERING DATA
• Research STaR Charts from current school district
• Know your Campus Improvement Plan (CIP) know the direction desired
• Research the Long Range Plan of the State 2006-2010
• Know where your district is currently
• Compare the results to a High Performing Exemplary School (CIP and STaR)
• Research Post Secondary Campuses ~ identify technology/expectations of new
students
3. • Research programs that provided internet security , make sure it fits your community
• Interview Administrator
What is the vision of technology?
Expectations
Preparedness / strategic plan established to address the staff that fights change and
growth
• Interview District officials on their vision of technology
Where do they see the district currently?
Identify weakness and strength
Expectations
Developments
Barriers
• Interview Educators and Staff
Identify/Survey percentage of staff that welcomes technology vs.. Those that avoid
Find reasons why they avoid
• Interview students
Survey students, what do they think will improve their technology edge
How could they use current knowledge to help in the classroom/learning
environment?
Do they know internet safety and protocol?
Do the understand Copyright and Internet ethics
• Interview Parents
Are you aware of the many uses of technology in the classroom?
Are you aware of the many dangers associated with internet uses?
Survey on how they monitor their child internet usage
Would they be interested in knowing more about the districts policies
• Interview SBDM members
Know their plans, vision
How many times they meet
How do stakeholders make suggestions/questions?
• Interview criminal task forces in your area
What precautionary goals should we take?
What new evasive procedures due internet criminal’s use
How can we be proactive to protect our school and students?
ANALYZING DATA –
1. What did you learn about your district?
2. Is everyone on the same page
4. 3. Are proactive strategies put in place
4. Everyone on Campus is aware of the State Long Range Plan 2006-2020
5. A understanding and rationale behind the Star Report
6. Campus Improvement Plan is a living breathing document
7. What Changes need to be made in order to protect the students
8. We have safe protocols put in place in order to avoid damaging, not age
appropriate web devices to infiltrate our servers.
9. According to the STaR report where do we stand in our technology development
10. What can our campus do in order to safely improve our current status in growth
LESSON LEARNED FROM CURRENT CAMPUS~
• Update the availability of computers, updates and functional~ This however is not the only
technology~ be Creative technology surrounds you
• Make sure the Staff knows what the Star surveys purpose is, and its importance
• Proactive administrators/Educators who are trained in internet protocol and safety
• Plan for more training of educators and staff
• Make sure staff knows the Long Range Plan 2006-2020
• Train staff into using student’s cell phones/smart phones as instant assistance in class
activities.
• Technology is here for the long haul embrace it, you will have a captivated audience
• Lets students assist you, and make a rich, learner centered environment for all
DEVELOPING UNDERSTANDING & USING DATA
• Be proactive in research, know and understand advancements
• Make Applications into curriculum
• Set aside TIME for teacher training with new technology, also offer refresher courses
• Have modeling educators to set as examples of safe internet, technology in the
classroom
• Chart School improvements and share with all stakeholders
• Look and research grants and funding when it comes to technology
• Stay on top of technology trends including safety
• Teach all to be internet responsible, respectful and always practice good ethics and
safety
Professional Development~
After diagnosing/reporting my own district I realized that many members of our own staff are not
aware of the technology that surrounds them, and the student who have prior knowledge and
5. devices readily at hand. Many were not aware of what National or State standards were as far
as technology. Of the campus staff, 50% did not understand the function or purpose of the
STaR report, and many felt it was just one of those things to be checked off a list of
requirements.
Part 3: Evaluation Planning for Action Plan
EVALUATION/ REFLECTION
• What are my districts weaknesses and how can I improve them?
• Have I exhausted all financial grants to help with funding?
• Are my teachers highly trained when it comes to technology?
• Are my students using technology to enhance state mandated curriculum?
• Do I plan and encourage professional development when it comes to technology?
• My campus is aware of my direction/goals/vision when it comes to technology
• I encourage and congratulate staff when they use curriculum
• When updating my CIP (Campus Improvement Plan) do I address new issues of
concern?
• Do I as a proactive administrator stay connected with my technology Professional
and address any concerns I may have about my campus?
• The instruction given on my campus is learner centered with technology, and my
teachers look for creative ways to implement technology
• Does my annual Star report show growth?
It is the job of all educator/ professionals to evaluate progress or areas of much needed improvement. With
technology, it is fast paced and changing daily, so every year there will be needs of improvements and
concerns. My campus must be aware of the overall vision and expectation as we approach a new year, they
must have noticed/experienced improvements otherwise it is back to the drawing board. Leaders must
always keep internet safety on the forefront, keeping the campus safe from outside predators. Educating
our students early to be cautious as the key into the internet world is a necessity. Keeping all stakeholders
informed is a way to insure there is follow-through, and expectations are clearly understood. There are
check and balances put in place by the state in order to see your improvement, which are the AEIS and the
STaR reports. The next step for administrators is to develop a new improved CIP that addresses any of the
states concerns about your campus. The uses of technology as far as productivity, safety issues will be a
revolving door that is met with new barriers and concern for the educating world to address
