The document compares specifications of four tablet models: iPad2, Motorola XOOM, ASUS Eee Slate, and Samsung Galaxy Tab. It then poses two questions:
1) Which tablet would be best for personal use. The Motorola XOOM is selected due to features like an open OS, micro USB connectivity, and HDMI output.
2) Which tablets to purchase for a school within a $18,000 budget. A combination of 7 Motorola XOOMs and 8 iPad2s is proposed, leaving $2,635 for a cart. The selection is based on price competitiveness, WiFi connectivity, and ability to run apps from online markets.

Question 1:
After comparing all four tablets, the Motorola XOOM has the qualities in a
tablet that I’d be looking for when purchasing a personal device. There are many
similarities between the four devices, but the reason I like Motorola’s XOOM best is
because of its micro USB sync cable, built-in HDMI output, and a proprietary power
adaptor connection. I like the fact that you can drag and drop files onto your tablet
without converting them to a different format and without using special software. I
also like the fact that has an Android 3.1 Honeycomb OS. This type of open OS
would allow me to build my tablet the way I wanted it to look. If I purchased the
iPad2 for my own, then my tablet would have the same look to it that all other iPad2
tablets have because Apple’s iOS 5.1 is basically a closed system.
Question 2:
After comparing all four tablets, I would choose Motorola XOOM 32GB
($599.00 X 12 = $7,188.00) and iPad2 32GB ($629.00 X 13 = $8177.00) for Barry
Elementary School. If I purchased seven Motorola XOOM tablets and eight iPad2
tablets I would spend $15, 365.00 of my $18,000.00 budget. That would leave me
with $2635.00 in order to purchase a Bretford PowerSync Cart. Some of the reasons
I would pick these two tablets are: they’re WiFi capable and have basically the same
type of conductivity, they’re competitively priced, and they both run apps that can
be loaded from an online market. Even though they have different OS, they both fit
into my schools existing systems because my computer lab has PC’s (Dell’s), and the
laptop carts are filled with MacBooks. So, I’m already accustomed to working with
Operating Systems that are different from one another.
4. In conclusion, it’s very hard to pick the best tablet for personal use and/or
for a school because they have many of the same features. As time goes on, it’s going
to be even harder to separate out the differences because they’re basically going to
have all the same features, but I do expect that Motorola XOOM, ASUS Eee Slate, and
Samsung Galaxy will have to make their open Operating System less vulnerable to
viruses.
