4. History of the Fair
The Fair has been running for over 30 years.
Cambridge University students started the Fair.
Students booked Midsummer Common for Two events. May day and the First
week of June.
The Fair started as a small affair and soon became noticed by the public and has
become popular ever since.
Ever since 1974 the Fair started to set events such as Musicians and Activities.
Mostly themed by Monty Python which has stayed with the Fair ever since.
5. How is it Funded?
The Fair is Funded Mostly From Benefit gigs
throughout the year.
Merchandise such as T shirts, Badges, programs and
posters.
6. Areas of the Festival
East stage.
This stage broadcasts a wide range of music across the
fair its the main attraction to the fair.
Music Genre Ranges from Punk, Reggae,Goth and
Electric Dance.
7. Future stage
Is Where upcoming Performers aged between 8 - 18
perform to show their talents to the local public.
In Recent years such performances
Primary school Punk Band, Mc, Freestyle Break
Dancing, Grime, Hip hop, Indie, World Music, Rock
Bands, Acoustic, Drum, Bag pipes, Rappers, Dancers
and Juggling.
8. Bigwam Stage
It is classified at strawberry fair as the most mysterious.
It’s known for it’s Weirdness.
And Pure Music Explosiveness.
9. Acoustic Tent
Renowned for it’s Laid back Feel.
Local Performers trying to make it on the UK acoustic
Scene.
10. Ents and Kids Area
Strawberry Fair is very proud of its amazing Kids Area.
All of the attractions are free and they try to give the
kids something new and fun every year. Here are just
some of the amazing attractions.
Circus, Wii Games, Trampoline, Magic show, chilled
out area for Families, Face Painting and Kids Cafe.
11. Green Area
Inspired by the Ethics at Glastonbury.
The stage continued to showcase both local and
international acts featuring dance, dub,punk and
folk. Many well known festival bands have played on
the Green Area stage over the years including
Tarantism, Seize The Day, 2000DS, Tragic
Roundabout, Templeheadz, Keltrix, Flipron, Pink n’
Ruby, plus local DJ’s and Sound Systems and the
occasional ranting poet!
12. Arts Area
Known for it’s Creativity.
Where Everyone is encouraged to participate.
Green Dynamic Space.
13. Film Festival
In Which Upcoming Directors, Actors, editors come
along to showcase their work. In Which is based on low
budget British films no longer than 20 minutes.
14. Strawberry World
In Which Around the World Music become showcased.
New to 2009.
Aim to broaden Musical Horizons to Strawberry Fair.
Great mix of DJ’s, Bands and Artists.
The mix of genres throughout the day will include Ska, Samba, Soca, Rock-Steady,
Afro-Cuban, Raga, Afrobeat, Marrabenta, Celtic, Cumbia, Salsa, Dub, Reggae,
Roots, Mbalax and many other various types of world music.
15. Parade
Biggest Spectacle of the Day.
Theme for 2009 is Strawberry Nation.
It will be around the Fair for the first time Ever!
16. Blaggers Stage
All types of Talent including Clowns, Comedy Music,
Poetry and Theatre.
Starts at 2 pm - 6 pm
17. BBC Headroom
The Headroom tent is a place to unwind your mind,
where you can try positive ways to help you deal with
life's ups and downs. This summer, BBC Headroom is
hitting the road again, touring a number of festivals
across the UK.
