2. Production Developed by Nintendo EAD Uses Wii Sports Modified engine The new technology with this game is the wii fit balance board. It took just over 2 years to create and was inspired by sumo wrestlers and their needs to be weighed on two scales. The wii fit and wii fit plus is one of the killer apps for the wii next to wii sports and wii sports resort. The wii fit was released april 25th 2008 with the wii fit plus expansion released on october 30th 2009. The wii fit expansion gave people the opportunity to just buy the wii fit plus with a balance board instead of just upgrading.
3. Marketing The nintendo company used both viral and conventional marketing. One of the main ways nintendo marketed the wii fit was through exclusive wii fit events which would be held in different locations around the country. The wii fit events would allow people to try out certain activities with the game such as hula hooping and gave people the chance to be the first to experience using the wii fit balance board.
4. Nintendo also used well known celebrities in their adverts to help get the game known before release. The Wii Fit target audience is mainly families and this is shown through tv adverts of different families playing it, and describing their favourite activities on the game. The wii fit also allows families to play against each other or working as a teamon a selection of the games
5. Distribution The only way to buy the game was either through a store online or visiting a store in person. Due to the need of a Wii balance board to play the game you weren’t able to download the game. In the first week of being on sale the wii fit was estimated to be selling 90 copies a minute. In the first week of sales the wii fit also sold enough copies to become the 6th fastest selling console title.
6. The wii fit is still currently the second best selling console game in history! In total the wii fit sold 22.56 million copies world wide by december 30th 2009.
7. Consumption The main thing that holds back the wii fit from being online is the wii balance board and the fact that wii fit is mainly a single player exercise game. The only real multiplayer option is the two person jogging where two people can run together following the same course. The wii balance board holds back the online option because every one who wants to play wii fit must own a balance board where as most games just require you having a controller there is no special platform you have to have for the game to work.
8. The only user created content you really get for the wii fit is people recording themselves playing the wii fit and creating their own personal workouts which they show online mainly through youtube.
