1. What have you learnt about the technologies
from the process of constructing this
product?
I have learnt about many technologies whilst creating our preliminary video and
final film opening. From being introduced and learning how to use these
technologies, I have got all the basic skills needed to create a low budget film .
2. Panasonic HD camera
Before beginning media studies I had never used a digital
filming camera before but throughout the process I have
gotten more confident at using it. I have learnt all of the
basic important things, including getting it to record and
zooming. We chose HD as we wanted our film to be the
best possible quality and we also thought it would be
effective for our close ups. Using a digital camera was
really helpful as inbetween filming we could play back our
footage and this allowed us to see if it was successful and
if not we could re- film it straight away.
Tripod
Using the tripod was very important. By using a tripod it
meant that our footage would be steady and not shaky,
improving the quality of the whole footage and making it
look less amateur and so there is no distractions from
the narrative. I learnt how to attach the camera on top
of the tripod correctly which was confusing at first and
how to adjust the height of it to suit what we wanted to
capture. Also by using the handle on the tripod we
could steadily change the direction of the camera when
filming. This was especially helpful when doing panning
shots.
3. Camera dolly
We were considering using a dolly so we could get some
decent tracking shots but we realised this would be difficult
as the woods floor is bumpy and isn’t at a complete
continuous level. This would have made our shots bumpy
and amateur looking. So we decided our film would benefit
more from not using one.
Editing software
We used Adobe premiere pro to edit our software on a
Dell computer. We had never used this before so it
was difficult at first but our understanding of it
increased throughout creating our film opening. We
have learnt all of the important basic skills needed to
put together a film, such as importing footage and
music and putting it into the right place, changing the
lighting and speed and being able to cut and crop
video clips.
