INTRODUCTION
• Lugansk State Medical University (LSMU) is attested according to the highest (the fourth) Level of accreditation. The University activities conform with The
Constitution of Ukraine, Ukrainian legislation, acts issued by the President and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Decrees of the Health Department and Education
Department of Ukraine, the University Rules.
• Lugansk State Medical University (LSMU) prepares specialists in 172 medical specialties. Good facilities, high qualification level of the teaching staff, scientific and
methodical provision led Lugansk State Medical University (LSMU) to one of the leading places in the country.
• 400 teachers, among them 63 doctors of sciences, 273 candidates of sciences, including five Honored Science and Technique Workers of Ukraine, one Honored Worker
of public education of Ukraine, two Honored doctors of Ukraine, two Laureates of State prize of Ukraine carry out pedagogical, scientific, medical and educational
work at 48 departments.
• Lugansk State Medical University (LSMU) has very good facilities. There are five building for theoretical classes and a wide net of clinical bases of medical
institutions of Lugansk, which are equipped at the level corresponding to world standards. Today Lugansk State Medical University (LSMU) is a complex
of buildings designed for practical classes, lectures, laboratory studies, library, research work and auxiliary services, covering. The total area owned by the Lugansk
State Medical University (LSMU) is 70466 sq.m: within it the area of study and laboratory premises is 33598 sq. mts. The teaching area per one student is 15 sq.m.
Other clinical bases used by the Lugansk State Medical University (LSMU) are administered by the Government healthcare department.
• Lugansk State Medical University (LSMU) is a higher educational intuition of the top accreditation level (conferred by the State Accreditation Committee of
Ukraine). At the State establishment Lugansk State Medical University (LSMU) there are six faculties and a preparatory department. The State establishment

• Organization of the medical process and methods of teaching at Lugansk State Medical University (LSMU) are built according to modern demands and world
experience. The Lugansk State Medical University (LSMU) has introduced the conception of continuous medical education that in all parameters corresponds to all
world standards, giving an opportunity to get qualification of different professional levels from Bachelor to Doctor of medicine.
• The Lugansk State Medical University (LSMU) activities cover a wide range of subjects, all aimed at shaping a global University policy. Thus, educational policy,
quality assurance, University management, legislation and international contacts all fall within the scope of the University's competence. Lugansk State Medical

HISTORY
• The university was founded in 1956 according to the USSR Council of Ministers Directive dated May 6, 1956. then it
was called Voroshilovgrad state medical university. The first acting rector was the head doc tor of the regional hospital,
the Honored doctor of Ukraine I. D. Vashenko. His successor became E. G. Palchevsky. He headed the university from
February 25, 1957 till May 25, 1960, Doctor of Medicine. Under his supervision the lecturers and the students of the
university conducted the first scientific research, the Academic council and the Students’ scientific society were also
created. F. M. Povelitsa, Candidate of science, associate professor, was the rector in 1960-1963. He paid great attention
to the development of clinical base of the university.

• During the period of 1963–1966 the university was headed by D.G. Kortchikov, Candidate of science, associate
professor. He finished the creation of scientific and clinical foundations of the university. In the years 1967 – 1975 the
rector of the university was I. I. Tchaikovska, Candidate of science, professor. Specialized academic council was
created due to her efforts; the administrative building and two students’ hostels were also built at that time. Training and
educational work was advanced. Coal extractive industry workers’ health protection had become one of the university
leading scientific problem tasks. A.M. Fadeev, Candidate of science, associate professor, headed the university from
1975 till 1984.

• A new studying building, a hostel and a gym were built. Two new faculties (postgraduate and pediatric) started
working. In 1983 the first foreign citizens came to study to the university. Immunology had become a new actual
scientific problem task: a profile chair and some laboratories were created. In 1984 - 2003 the university was headed by
V.G. Koveshnicov, M.D., professor. During the years of his direction he re-organized the administrative teaching body,
students’ hostels, university’s dental clinic, the library, the gym and the stadium. The faculties of dentistry, pharmacy
and nursing were opened. The university has gained the recognition abroad. In 2003 the rector of the university became
V.K. Ivchenko, M.D., professor. He prepared the university for teaching in English. He has been developing such
directions as educational activity of the university, students’.


ACCREDITATIONS
• Lugansk State Medical University is one of the oldest and leading medical higher institutions of Ukraine .
• Lugansk State Medical University was founded in the year of 1956. At presently in April 2011 about 2500 foreign students are
studying from 60 countries.
• All our educational programs are regulated and approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Ministry of
Health of Ukraine. The degrees and certificates issued to graduated foreign students by the State Establishment Lugansk State Medical
University are legalized by the Ministry of heath of Ukraine and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

• Lugansk State Medical University is recognized and listed in the International Medical Education Directory . This accreditation allows
the Lugansk State Medical University to be eligible to take the United States Medical Licensing Examinations and enter Postgraduate
Medical (Residency) training in United States.
• IMED accreditation is recognized by the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and the Medical Council of
Canada (MCC) for eligibility of graduates to obtain certification and Licensure.
• Lugansk State Medical University is recognized by the World Health Organization.
• The students and graduates of Lugansk State Medical University are eligible to participate in the United States Medical Licensing
Examination & receive ECFMG certification. The ECFMG certification requires all graduates to have passed USMLE Step 1 and Step
2 (both sections), submit a final transcript, and provide a copy of the graduate's diploma for verification. Once ECFMG certification
has been granted the graduates are eligible for Postgraduate Medical education (Residency Training) in the United States.
• All prospective and current students who wish to practice in the United States are encouraged to educate themselves on the licensure

LIBRARY
• The library of the Lugansk state medical university, created in 1956, fulfills an important role in organization of many-
sided educational process. During 45 years the fund of the library was replenished with new educational and scientific
literature. Nowadays it numbers more than 800 thousand volumes.
• The Lugansk state medical university has 3 libraries. The library has own 3 separate buildings. One of these libraries is
a regional medical library, located at the city center housing more than 700,000 copies of different literature. It has a
considerable fund of home and foreign periodicals, author's abstracts and dissertations, a great number of reference
and bibliographical literature. Every year about 20 thousand new books come into the library, 400 home and foreign
journals are subscribed.
• The three remaining libraries, which are located in the University campus, comprise of a short-term book-borrowing
library, a long-term book-borrowing library and a computerized library; where one can find literature on line. These
libraries contain more than 800,000 copies of different books, from different parts of the world in different languages
etc. The electronic reading hall is connected with the University data bank and Internet. The University supplies her
students with all the literature necessary for academic purposes.
• Lugansk state medical university library stock includes more than 800 thousand copies of books, journals and theses in
the Ukrainian, English, Russian, French and German languages.
• The important role in providing students and staff members with the teaching literature belongs to the University's
library. The scientific library of the University is an auxiliary for teaching, scientific, informational and culturally
enlightening division.
• The library work is purposed for building and protecting of book stocks and meeting the readers' needs and the tasks
of teaching and research processes with most possible effectiveness. One of the main tasks of the library is supporting
the teaching process and the independent work of the students, which requires an effective interaction with the
Teaching division, dean's offices and departments. The stock formation sector and the textbook loan system keep the
card-catalogue reflecting the extent to which the teaching process is provided with books.
• The library carries on scientifically based formation of stocks in compliance with the regulations in action and financial
facilities, aiming at reaching the ratio of books to student's 1:1.

UNIVERSITY CAMPUS


COURSE OFFERED

• FOUNDATION COURSE: This course is specially designed for the foreign students who do not have the
necessary requirements for the undergraduate programs and also it helps to enable students to bridge the gap
between school and University. The duration of the foundation course is 1 year.

• PRE-MEDICAL COURSE: This is a Russian intensive program for students wishing to continue their studies at
the Lugansk State Medical University or any other University in Ukraine. The duration of the preparatory course is
one year. Upon successful completion a diploma is awarded.

• MEDICINE: The Lugansk State Medical University offers medical course in English and Russian language. The
duration of the medical course is 6 years. The degree awarded is Doctor of Medicine (MD or MBBS).

• DENTAL: The Lugansk State Medical University offers dental course in English and Russian language. The
duration of the dental course is 5 years. The degree awarded is Bachelor of dentistry (BDS).

• PEDIATRICS: The Lugansk State Medical University offers pediatrics course in English and Russian language.
The duration of the course is 6 years. The degree awarded is Doctor of Medicine (pediatrician).

• NURSING: The Lugansk State Medical University offers nursing course in Russian language. The duration of the
course is 2 years. The degree awarded is bachelor of nursing.

• POST GRADUATE STUDIES : The Lugansk State Medical University offers post graduate studies in all medical
fields. The duration of the study is 2-3 years.


FOUNDATION COURSE

• This is a one-year foundation course at the Lugansk State Medical University. Foundation
Year offers students a standard university entrance qualification and also an excellent base
for their further academic studies. The qualification gained is recognised by many
universities or partially meeting, their university entrance qualifications.
• This course is specially designed for the foreign students who do not have the necessary
requirements for the undergraduate programs and also it helps to enable students to bridge
the gap between school and university. Foundation Studies Course offers a range of study
units relating to the special subject requirements of the course the student intends to apply
for.
• Professional development is intended to encourage student confidence and independent
learning. LSMU's Foundation Year course streams include key preparatory studies aimed
at specific LSMU degrees - for example, the Health Sciences stream preparing for entry
into LSMU's professional degrees such as Medicine, Dentistry, Pediatrics and Pharmacy.
The following subjects are taught in the foundation course: Biology, Physics, Chemistry,
Computer Studies and Mathematics.
• Teacher consultation times are provided outside class time, so that along with the tutorials,
each student has considerable opportunity to receive individual attention. Classes are
conducted in the university as well as in our new purpose built building. Students have full
use of all university resources, including all libraries, recreational facilities,
accommodation, computer suites and student services.


PREMEDICAL COURSE

• The pre-medical program was established as the first step toward the creation of a truly international student
body. This program allows the matriculation of students form around the world regardless of the individual
variations of the educational system of their home country.
• Students enter the premedical program with the expectation, eventually being accepted into school of
medicine in LSMU. Students of science (should have passes in science, mathematics, English and any other
three subjects) are eligible to this program.
• The Pre-medical course is fully conducted in English along with the Russian language. The duration of the
pre-medical course is 10 months. The students are to receive the most necessary skills in reading, listening,
writing and speaking with focused work on subjects specific to the University classroom.
• The teachers of the pre-medical course are competent, friendly and dedicated professionals. They have
extensive experience in teaching the foreign students. Teacher consultation times are provided outside class
time, so that along with the tutorials, each student has considerable opportunity to receive individual
attention.
• Classes are conducted in the university as well as in our new purpose built building. Students have full use of
all university resources, including all libraries, recreational facilities, accommodation, computer suites and
student services.
• Pre - medical course offers students a standard university entrance qualification and also an excellent base for
their further academic studies. The program of the Russian language course at the pre-medical course gives
the possibility to develop the students skills in making notes of scientific texts, mastering the special
terminology, understanding and writing lectures. Here students also extend their knowledge of Chemistry,
Biology, Physics and Computer Science.
• The program of the pre-medical course curriculum is approved by the Ministry of education and Ministry of
Public health, Ukraine and gives the right to enter the following faculties: medical faculty; dentistry and
postgraduate training. These will help you to prepare for the content and level of the degree course subjects,
as well as to familiarize yourself with the method of teaching at the Lugansk State Medical University.


FACULTY OF GENERAL MEDICINE (MBBS)

• The Medical course at the Lugansk State Medical University takes six years and leads to MD (Doctor of Medicine) or
MBBS. The medical faculty is founded in 1956. In the under graduate program, during six years of study the students
learn different subjects from fundamental subjects disciplines to special medical subjects.
• Medicines the science and art of healing. It encompasses a variety of health care practices evolved to maintain and
restore health by the prevention and treatment of illness.
• We believe students are enrolling in Lugansk State Medical University for the right reasons-they want to provide care
for people and they feel that as physicians they can make a difference in their communities. For that reason, We have
great faith that health care delivery in our nation has a bright future.
• Admission to the medical faculty takes place after conclusion of a contract. Foreigners learn in group of seven eight
students along with local students. The second year students attend their clinical studies where they can gain
experience in nursing the patients. Clinical subjects are taught beginning from the third year of study. Students can
study any topic of interest and to raise their of knowledge in the departments. All six years of the program are
important and all must be passed successfully before students are permitted to graduate.
• The medium of instruction in the Medical faculty is English and Russian language. The Ministry of education and
Ministry of Public health, Ukraine approved the CURRICULUM of the medical faculty. Many countries accept the
Lugansk State Medical University's degree.
• The successful students who will complete study of five years, then on graduation work for another year under
probation in order to gain general registration. There is a wide range of specialization available in the public and
private sectors, involving research, academic medicine, public health, clinical medicine and other areas. Specialties
include Cardiology, Oncology, Pediatrics, Psychological Medicine, Surgery, Pathology, Public Health, General
Practice and many others. Most doctors complete postgraduate training in their chosen specialty.

FACULTY OF DENTISTRY
• At the dentistry faculty the curriculum is worked out for five academic years. The students master the
basic subjects of medical and biological profile, as well as various clinical disciplines, which are so
necessary for a dentist. On condition of successful completion of study the graduates are given the
Diploma of a doctor - dentist. The curriculum foresees the further postgraduate education. The degree
awarded is BDS.
• For the junior courses students study theoretical disciplines and beginning from the fourth course, they
start studying clinical disciplines. At junior courses students study theoretical disciplines and,
beginning from the fourth course, they start studying clinical disciplines. Among them there are
therapeutic and orthopedic stomatology. The chairs of anatomy, histology, normal physiology,
biochemistry, general chemistry, having wonderful traditions in organization of educational process
and high skilled teachers, could do profiles for the teaching of their disciplines, taking into account the
faculty's specificity.
• At special dental departments the students study principal actual problems of dentistry: caries,
parodonthosis, diseases of the mucous membrane in the mouth cavity. The principle task of the dental
faculty is perfection of higher dentistry education, raising the quality of doctors dental training.
• At the faculty they worked out and applied the complex of methodical ways for optimization of
educational process, which is aimed at activation of cognitive activity of students, development of
habits for educational and researching work, training the creative method of approach for professional
activity. The stomatological faculty helps the students to obtain good knowledge in the dental field. It
grows and develops, absorbing all the best from the experience of the University's work.


FACULTY OF PEDIATRICS

• The course of study comprises six academic years. The syllabuses of fundamental sciences are very close to
those of the "General Medicine", however much attention is paid to the peculiarities of the vitality of
infantile organism. Of the multitude of clinical subjects students study pediatrics and surgery of a child's age.
Those, who successfully complete their education, acquire the diploma of pediatrician and can be engaged in
treating patients at children hospitals, continue their study and be involved in research work.
• A doctor-peadiatrists must be a high-educated person, possess wide knowledge in the field of biological,
medical and special sciences and be not only a doctor but also an educator. A student receives general
biological and medical education at first courses; the paediatrical education starts from the third course to the
sixth course. Students of the paediatrical faculty master knowledge at many chairs during 6 years of study ,
where they study anatomy, physiology, pathology and hygiene of childish age.
• The employees of the chairs study successfully the questions of pathology of childish age, rearing,
organization of help for children by purulent and inflammatory diseases, treatment of inborn defects of hip
and hip-joint development, children's infectious diseases and others.
• The intensive education of students-paediatrists at theoretical and clinical chairs allows to train skilled
doctors-paediatrists. Besides studies by educational program, many students conduct a scientific work in
groups; work in laboratories, that's why one can assert boldly that readiness of students to practical activity
is quite high in establishments of health protection.
• At 6th course students are given a right of choice (depending on the requirement of practical health
protection) of his further specialization and namely a doctor-paediatrist of a wide profile or children's doctor-
surgeon.
• After passing state exams all the students with diplomas of doctors-paediatrists go to children's medical and
prophylactic establishments for passing the internship during one year. The internship gives an opportunity
to specialize in the earlier chosen paediatrical profession.
• Graduates of the paediatrical faculty the doctors-paeditrists work in all parts of our country. Some of them
became scientists, others - practical doctors.


FACULTY OF NURSING

• The faculty of nursing practice trains medical nurses - bachelors with higher medical education. The
applicants with medical education (those who have finished medical instutions of the first grade
accreditation) are admitted to the University. The course of study lasts two academic years for day time
department and three academic years for part time department.
• At first students study fundamental medical and biological disciplines. Then they study clinical subjects and
nursing in different situations. Practical training together with theoretical one are given both at different
departments of University and clinics. The graduates get the diploma of bachelor. Their qualification allows
to occupy administrative posts and work as medical nurses of different profile.
• Thus favorable conditions are provided to efficiently train junior specialists and apply the system of
continuous staged training by comprehensive curricula and programs for medical nurses with the basic
higher medical education - bachelor-nurses.
• To reform the education is impossible without expanding international cooperation with other Universities
abroad, and these activities are carried on along the following directions:
• Foreign scientists are invited for teaching and research. Citizens of other countries are taught on basic of
interstate and bilateral agreements
• International activities: training specialists and science workers, realizing international projects, services
etc.
• Steps are being taken for the educational sector of Ukraine to join the international treaties on preliminary
training of persons who are going to apply to higher institutions
• Assistance is provided in establishing and supporting direct contacts of educational institutions of Ukraine
with other states
• International science conferences, symposiums, exhibitions, presentations are organized and participated by
the University
• The University carries on these activities in compliance with the acting legislation and the Rules of the
University. Wide international cooperation helps raising the organizational standard and improving the
teaching & studying process.

FACULTY OF POST GRADUATION

• The faculty of postgraduate education offers the study in 55 medical specialties at internship, mastership and
clinical internship. At the department of LSMU, along with the traditional ways of teaching, there is also a
module study, and a through out program of students' practice. Constantly developing base of computerized
equipment gives the possibility to use modern PC know-how and world informative networks in the process
of study.
• Postgraduates are taught in English and Russian according to the programs and curricula approved by the
Ministry of Health of Ukraine. We take into consideration and peculiarities of public health services of the
state trainees come from. The duration of the post graduate courses are 2-3 years.
• The main objective of the postgraduate training is to allow the students of medical institutions to continue
their education and general practitioners to improve their skills for further certification and faculty is directed
at the training and improvement of qualification and skills of specialists to master not only up-to date
medical information but new modern technologies of today and tomorrow.
• The Medical faculty of Lugansk State Medical University, together with its teaching hospitals and other
health organizations in Ukraine and abroad, will provide the necessary physical and human resources to
create a scholarly environment appropriate for the training of medical graduates so that they acquire the
knowledge, skills and attitudes to become accomplished physicians and surgeons with the highest moral and
ethical standards.
• The individual form of training is based on qualification characteristics, professional and position
requirements, principles of realized perspective and doctor's pretensions. Detailed theoretical training is
combined with learning practical skills, operative technique, and typical and complex operations.
• To maintain its international role, the Medical Faculty of Lugansk State Medical University intends by
means of contractual arrangements with foreign countries, universities, and hospitals to train residents from
other countries in its postgraduate training programs who will return to their home country upon completion
of their training.

ACCOMMODATION
• Lugansk State Medical University has a very good hostel system with fully furnished rooms, quite study environment and surrounded
with recreation center. The University posses 5 hostels with the total area of 28431 sq.m for accommodation of 2220 students.
• The International Office provides a guarantee of accommodation placement services to all international students who receive an
academic offer. There are several accommodation options for international students and it is important to consider whether you prefer an
independent lifestyle or enjoy living in a community. Combine the convenience of living on or near campus, access to programs and
services to help you excel academically, the opportunity to build lasting friendships, and comfortable, affordable living and you have the
life of a University. The territory of the University and the main students' routes from the hostels to the educational buildings are
protected and patrolled by officers of guard service.
• All rooms in hostels are provided with internet facility. Hostel No.5 is provided with the free internet facility. Hostel No.1 , 3 & 5 is
equipped with wi-fi zone. Students can use a laptop, wifi phone or other suitable portable device to access the wireless internet
connection provided. Rooms on campus are available to students. All hostel rooms are furnished and vary in size and number of
conveniences. Dormitory rooms at hostel can accommodate 2 or 3 students to a room.
• All rooms are equipped with bed, mattress, pillow, blanket, desk, chair, Almira, heating, water system and suitable lighting for both
study and relaxation. There are common areas where students can play and mingle. Upon the students arrival on campus, specific
accommodations are assigned and after a satisfactory health report the student will be accommodated to the room which is allotted to
him.
• In the hostel each room is attached with kitchen is provided for students to cook food to their own taste. Students will need to supply
their own kitchen utensils. Meals may be bought from various food outlets. All the rooms are provided with heaters. Our hostels feature
24-hour access to security and emergency services, making it easy to get assistance when you need it. As a campus resident, you also
have access to all support services such as campus Security Services, counseling Services and health Services.
• Hotels - Find the Perfect Accommodation Option in Ukraine. There is a wide variety of hotels and other accommodation to choose from
in Ukraine. The accommodation industry is well established and covers most of the country. You can choose from cheap, middle range
and expensive, so you should be able to find something in your price range. Most accommodation comes with a good variety of facilities
such as showers, mini-bars, air-conditioning and television. You can also get lodging that is specific, such as business accommodation,
holiday accommodation and health resort accommodation. So if you want good accommodation without the frills and fuss, because you
will be spending very little time there for a business meeting, business accommodation is a good choice.


HOSTEL ROOM


ENTRY REQUIRMENTS

• Lugansk State Medical University will be pleased to consider all applications on
an individual basis. Students with additional qualifications or relevant work
experience may be considered for entry beyond the first year of some programs
(entry with advanced standing). The student must have English, Physics,
Chemistry and biology to get the admission in the University.
• Students with the O-Level can apply for the admission in the pre-medical course.
Indian students who completed the 12th standard can apply for the admission.
Candidates with excellent results at standard XII in the Higher Secondary School
Certificates will be considered for undergraduate entry, particularly where the
language of instruction is English.
• Students with GCSE and A-Level can apply for the admission can apply for the
first course.
• The Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) is generally considered to A-
Level standard. SPM holders can get the admission in the pre-medical course.
• Candidates with MBBS degree will be considered for postgraduate entry.


HEATH CARE SERVICE

• A comprehensive health care service is provided to all the students. The health
care of the University offers prevention procedures such as eyesight testing and
vaccination. The Health care staffs include doctors of both sexes.
• All students are medically insured. The medical care provided by the University
covers preventive care, treatment, medicaments, operations and medical
examination. The Technical Council for medical affairs supervises this service.
• The Student Clinic, established at the University campus. It also includes an
outpatient clinic for various medical specialization. The clinics have been
provided with modern equipment. At the beginning of the academic year, new
students are obliged to have a medical check up.
• The University Health Service is free for all the University students and staff
members, offering General Practice together with specialized advice for family
planning, psychiatric and psychological problems, S.T.D., gynecology,
immunization and travel advice, as well as minor surgery.
• General Practitioners are available for general and urgent consultations throughout
the day. There are also four Nurse Practitioners and administrative staff. The
University Health Service center are from 8.00am - 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.


SPORTS FACILITIES

• The University Sport Complex is situated in the separate building and includes also an opened stadium
on the territory of Medical town of the University.
• The Sport Complex comprises:
– Specialized hall №1 with total area of 648 sq.m for studies and games in football, basketball and
tennis.
– Specialized hall №2 with total area of 540 sq.m. for studies and games in volleyball, basketball
and badminton.
– Hall for athletic studies with total area of 120 sq.m.
– Hall for students with problems in health (specialized medical groups) with area of 48 sq.m.
– Specialized hall for studies in aerobics and fitness.
• The department of physical education and health is placed in the building of Sport Complex. 12
teachers-trainers conduct studies in physical training during 5 years of students studies.
• The University has active sections in athletics, volleyball, football, basketball, table and grass tennis,
chess, swimming, aerobics, fitness, arresting, karate and others which offer a wide range of sporting
opportunities.
• The University football, volleyball and basketball teams regularly have competitions with other college
and universities in Lugansk. Outdoors events include tournaments on different kind of sports take place
in summer on the opened stadium. Indoor there are also a sauna and dance studio.

• Ukraine is a state with the democratic form of governing, headed by the nation-wide elected president. The verkhovna Rada (the
Ukranian parliament) is the highest legislative body. It consists of 450 members, elected for 4-term in accordance with the proportional
majority system. On August 24, 1991 Ukraine declared itself an independent state. In an effort to rebuild the country of Ukraine has
opened her doors to foreign investors, businessmen, and foremost to tourists.
• Space and rocket complex of Ukraine has great potential. Ukraine is distinguished by a high level scientific potential. After Ukraine
regained its independence, ideas of nation cultural revival stimulated the process of democratization in cultural sphere, pluralism in a
creativity process, made cultural life in the regions more active. Broadening of international contacts has become a positive tendency.
• Cultural life of national minorities in Ukraine - Bulgarian, Greek, Jewish, Crimean Tartar, German, Polish, Russian, Romanian,
Hungarian and dozens of others - is very diversified. A system of national schools, libraries, mass media, scientific centers, radio and
television, theatres and creative societies is being developed. Languages of all peoples inhabiting the territory of Ukraine are granted
equality on the state level.
• Today Ukraine is an internationally oriented center of high technology, with speech technology, micro electronics, chips development,
media technology and genetic engineering as out standing examples. Thanks to international communications and transport systems it
is literally the hub of central Europe.
• Ukraine has well-developed economy with considerable portions of agricultural and industrial sectors. Space and rocket engineering,
aircraft and ship building, high tech equipment production are among the main branches of the Ukrainian industry. Electrical
equipment made in Ukraine is highly rated in the world. Power station turbines, transformers, high-voltage instruments are used in
many countries.
• Ukraine is distinguished by a high level scientific potential. The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine has won a world-wide
recognition as a science center of physical studies of materials, in particular, in the sphere of electric welding, special electric
metallurgy, synthetic super hard materials and tools made from them. The National Academy of sciences, higher educational
institutions of Ukraine maintain broad international contacts. Broadening of international contacts has become a positive tendency.
