After you have logged in to Moodle, click on the course to be edited.
In this case, click on Demo Course.

By default, the course outline is arranged by Topic, and 5 topics are displayed.

If you want to change this setting, click on the Settings button on the left.

Click on the Format field to open the pull-down menu.

There are 5 other options for you to choose from. LAMS course format is the format used in another open source called
Learning Activity Management System (LAMS), but as it is not available in HKIEd, this option is not applicable in this case.

SCORM format allows students to read the course content and participate in the activities provided in the SCORM content
package, but such package is to be prepared by software tools other than Moodle.

Social format provides a basic structure of a discussion forum, allowing participants to add topics and post threads.
It displays the course in the format of a notice board rather than a course outline.

Topics format is the default setting. It arranges the course content by topics.

Weekly format organizes the course content week by week.

Weekly format - CSS/No tables displays the course content in a similar way to Weekly format,
but the course content is styled by Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) without using tables for layout.
In this example, we select Weekly format.

Then click on the Number of weeks/topics field to open the pull-down menu.

Choose the number of weeks to be displayed. In this case, we choose 12.

To set the start date of your course, click on the pull-down menus next to the Course start date field.
In this case, we set the start date as 1 September 2011.

Click on the Availability field to choose whether or not to release the course to students.

After you have finished, click on the Save changes button at the bottom of the page.

You can see that the course outline is now arranged by weeks, and 12 weeks are displayed.

Since we have chosen This course is not available to students, you can see that the course name is greyed out.
Students will not be able to see this course on their course list.
