Richard Turere

“My Invention that made Peace with the Lions”
Richard Turere is a cow herder of the
Maasai tribe in Kenya near Nairobi
            National Park
In Richard’s TED
Talk, he takes the
audience on a
journey through
his culture as he
shares the events
that led up to his
creation of a life-
changing lion
deterrent.
He captures the
audience’s
attention through
strong imagery
and the story of
his past and
home; keeping
the audience
engaged with an
occasional joke
and conversational
tone
Dynamism 4/5
Richard stumbled a bit/paused a little too long on his words,
which is acceptable due to English being his second language.
He also tended to have a nervous habit of slinging his arms to
his side which was somewhat distracting.
Similar to the methods practiced by Garr Reynolds and Nancy Duarte,
Richard’s slides were simple images relative to the discussion.
In Comparison
Both Richard Turere and Brian Cox feel very strongly for their topics.

However, Brian’s presentations have an overall focus on dry humor
with a serious undertone while Turere has a more simple humor with
a conversational tone throughout.
Based on this TED Talk
I would suggest that my classmates feel strongly for any subject they
choose to present. Not only does it make the job more fun; it makes
the presentation all the more engaging for the audience.
“One year ago, I was just a boy in the
Savanna Grassland herding my
father’s cows. And I used to see
planes flying over… one day, I’ll be
there inside”

long as you have the
passion”
