2. Representations of different music
Because my magazine covered more than one genre including rock, indie and pop I
looked at different representations of these genres.
How I did it Creating ‘The Look’
I created 3 music stars When I created the look I had to think about not only how the
covering all three genres: stars of my magazine look but how they are portrayed, this was
created with the background and in particular the stars pose and
facial expression.
I think that I made this group of musicians successfully portray the
representation of indie musicians because their look is simple and
Indie is more about the music than the look. I showed this by including
the guitar in lots of shots. I think they look more casual compared
to the musician representing rock and pop because it is a
reflection of their music.
The best star to represent their genre is the Rock star because in
Rock my opinion the rural background and unique costume with the
rock inspired accessories including piercings, necklace, hat and
purple lipstick create a look which immediately makes you think
of rock. The pose is quite a big headed pose and is bold which
makes it representative of the music and musician.
Pop This musician represents pop music. I think that the costume
and make-up were effective and the rural backgrounds used
adds an edgy look. I think that because she’s wearing a dress in a
place were it would be seen as quite over dressed it makes her
look important and her smile makes her look comfortable in the
environment.
3. The Feedback
I asked my target audience of males and females aged 14 – 18 if they thought that the
contents page, front cover and double page spread were representative of the 3
genres of music rock, pop and indie

5. • The musicians I have used are all a
similar age as the target audience. This
is something that magazines with the
same young target audience do, for
example the magazine ‘we love pop’
which has the same target audience,
age as ours but only appeals to
females, has a page dedicated to
musicians the same age as readers and
shows topless males and looking as
grown up and butch as possible.
• However to improve next time I would
include some older models between 18
and 25 because I think that all genres
mainly focus on those stars because
there are more well known musicians
of that age.
6. Representation of the front cover
‘Lana’
Lana is a typical
representation of a pop star.
I chose to use the model
because of her beauty and This musician clashes with the
physique and I think she fits representation of the main feature
the mould of a pop star of the front cover which makes
readers aware that our magazine is

the page because of the layout. The layout is fun and not too mature, in a way it is
representative of the TA and the colours link to the front cover.
8. Representation on my double page
Language spread
-The ‘MOAB’ acronym is used to
shorten the bands lengthy title
‘Mother of all Badgers’ . This is
representative of my target audience
because they have the ability to
recognise the acronym.
- Informal words such as ‘coo coo’
used to describe the fans works well
as the language used in the article
imitates the kind of language used in
every day ‘chat’ that is used amongst
the target audience. It creates a
feeling of closeness with the reader
because it’s like talking to a friend
rather than reading something. The
word ‘coo coo’ has a different
signified meaning to the audience
because where as some people might
see it as a noise birds make, the
connotation of this word to my target
audience means crazy.
-The register of the article is casual and takes the form of a ‘group’ language. The
particular group of readers who will be reading the article will be English males or
females of the age between 14 and 18 and will understand that the term ‘telly’
comes from the word ‘T.V’.
- Because the duo featured in the dps (double page spread) are indie musicians the
readers are likely to represent a working class of perhaps a mixed ethnicity but
more likely to be of white ethnicity. This group of people can relate to the duo who
are dressed simply and like the audience started of as middle class people.
