2. When we were thinking about constructing our
music video, we thought it would be helpful if we
deconstructed the lyrics to the song in order to try
and put some ideas together that would help us
meet the expectations of our audience. For
example the expectation of our audience wanting
a relation between what they see and what they
hear. Although this may not be the case
throughout the whole of the video, it is just one of
the ideas we are thinking of carrying out to try and
please our target audience.
3. Throughout the song there is a carried on theme
of the artist giving the ‘rules’ of how to be a
heartbreaker. We will construct our made up
theme of using fridge magnets with stop motion to
match the lyrics when Marina goes through each
rule.
‘Rule number one’
We thought it would be an effective and different
way to show to the audience, and also look good
with the stop motion.
4. ‘Is that you gotta have fun But baby when you're
done you gotta be the first to run’
- We will change this to show the storyline of the
artist spraying her interest in love with silly string,
then running away. We chose silly string because it
would be associated with fun, and then show the
artist running away because it matches the lyrics.
5. ‘Rule number two’ (stop motion with fridge
magnets).
‘just don't get attached to somebody you could lose,
so le-let me tell you’
- Here we will show the artist on stage lip syncing to
the lyrics. We chose to do this because it will have
the artist as the centre of attention which was one of
the factors we found common in singer songwriter
videos, and also our target audience research
showed our target audience to expect an element of
performance.
6. CHORUS X 2
‘this is how to be a heartbreaker boys they like a little danger we'll
get them falling for a stranger a player singing i la-la-la-love you
how to be a heartbreaker boys they like the look of danger we'll
get them falling for a stranger a player singing i la-la-la-love you’
- The chorus will involve plenty of jump shots from the story line
of the artists love interest, to a white background with a group of
people throwing paint and making a mess. We chose the paint
scene, because it matches the lyrics of rule number one being
about having fun. Also using the love scene will follow the
common idea of singer songwriter
songs being about love, and also match the title
which clearly introduces the song being about love, ‘heartbreaker’.
The paint on white background
idea was inspired by ‘Florence and the Machine’,
‘Dog Days Are Over’.
7. ‘at least i think i do’
- Stop motion repeated with the words.
Instrumental
- Show the artist and a boy being together, holding hands etc…
‘cause i la-la-la-love you’
- Show the artist singing this to the boy.
‘Rule number three’ (Stop motion with the letters)
‘Wear your heart on your cheek’
- We have chosen to take numerous pictures of our artist’s cheek
with different coloured love hearts on, we will then incorporate stop
motion when showing this to add a creative effect. It also matches
the lyrics which is a common idea I researched in the music video
deconstructions.
8. ‘but never on your sleeve unless you want to taste defeat’
- Again a stage performance showing our artist lip
syncing.
‘Rule number four’ (stop motion with the letters)
‘gotta be looking pure kissing goodbye at the door and
leave them wanting more more’
- Cut again to the storyline of girl and boy, however this
time saying goodbye to eachother and kissing at a door,
with the girl shutting the door in his face. Through split
screen we will show both emotions of the characters
which will be the boy looking upset and confused, and
the artist looking happy with herself.
9. CHORUS X 2
‘this is how to be a heartbreaker boys they like a little danger
we'll get them falling for a stranger a player singing i la-la-la-love
you how to be a heartbreaker boys they like the look of danger
we'll get them falling for a stranger a player singing i la-la-la-love
you’
- Similar to the last chorus with the people messing around and
partying, this is to ensure the same theme is carried throughout.
‘at least i think i do’
- Stop motion repeated with the words.
Instrumental
- Show the party scene again.
‘cause i la-la-la-love you’
- Revert back to where we left the two characters at the door,
then show the girl opening the door and singing the lyrics to the
boy.
10. CHORUS X 2
‘this is how to be a heartbreaker boys they like a little
danger we'll get them falling for a stranger a player
singing i la-la-la-love you how to be a heartbreaker boys
they like the look of danger we'll get them falling for a
stranger a player singing i la-la-la-love you’
- Party scene shown again.
Instrumental
- Show the romantic love story as a whole.
‘cause i la-la-la-love you’
- Show the artist singing this to the boy.
‘at least i think i do’
- The artist will finish the video by looking into the
camera and singing to the audience, which shows the
artist to be ‘breaking the fourth rule’; perceiving the
video to be quite daring.
