Geography
with
Other Disciplines
GEOGRAPHY
-inherently encompassing discipline
-it brings together facts from many other sciences:
physical-------physical geography
biological-----biogeography
social ----------human geography
•CARTOGRAPHY
-the art of making maps or charts
•GEOLOGY
-the science of measuring or determining the
shape of the earth
Branches of Physical Geography:

Climatology----------Meteorology
-deals with the average or general weather conditions(climate)

Meteorology
-the science of the atmosphere and the origin or prediction of
weather.
Pedageography------Pedology
-concerned with the distribution of soils;
its characteristics association of soils with vegetation
drainage
relief
rocks
climate
significance of soils in the economy
culture of region
Branches of Biogeography
Phytogeography------Botany
-the science that deals with plants— life, structure and growth
Zoogeography---------Zoology
-concerned with the distribution of animals and with their
adaptations, or their restriction by environment.
Zoology
-science of the animal life of an area.
oPaleontology
-study of the fossils
oEcology
-the study of the interrelationship of organisms and their
environment
Branches of Human Geography:
Economic Geography
-concerned with the economic activities of man as
manifested in specific localities and as related to the other
phenomena with which they are associated.
Political Geography---Political
Science
-both concerned with the comparative study of different
governments and international relations.

past.
•Artifacts
•Architecture

of study from all of these related
terms.
Many Thanks…
