3. THREE MAIN TYPES
OF GEOGRAPHY
>PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY
>HUMAN GEOGRAPHY
>ENVIRONMENTAL
4. PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY
The study of the natural features of the ear
th's surface especially in its current aspec
ts, including land formation,
climate, currents, and distribution of flora an
d fauna. Also called physiography.
That branch of natural science which deals
with the study of processes and patterns in
the natural environment.
Study of whole natural equipment of region
in terms of its resources potentialities and
human ocupancy and use.
5. IMPORTANCE
Physical geography is very important for
understanding various things about countries and
regions of the world.
It helps to determine the economics of a nation.
Is a key to understand history, economics,
weather, resource management, and humanity in
general.
Determines what parts are wet, dry, cold, warm,
which ones experience powerful hurricanes and
which get torrential rainstorms.
Is to explain the spatial characteristics of the
various natural phenomena associated with the
Earth's hydrosphere, biosphere, atmosphere, and
lithosphere.
6. HUMAN GEOGRAPHY
> Branch of the social
sciences that studies the world,
its people, communities and
cultures[ with an emphasis on
relations of and across space
and place.
>The study of the interaction
between human beings and
their environment in particular
places and across spatial areas.
7. IMPORTANCE
Is vital in helping us to understand
our world. No other single subject
allows an overview of the spatial
effects of human activity and
interaction.
It helps understand past to prepare
for future
and gives understanding of human
mind and how sociology affects us.
People need to know about what’s
going on in today’s society.
8. ENVIRONMENTAL GEOGRAPHY
Is the branch of geography that
describes and explains the
spatial aspects of interactions
between human individuals or
societies and their natural
environment.
It involves several aspects of the
relationship between humans and
the environment.
9. IMPORTANCE
Understand the spatial relationships of
humans to their natural world it is easier
to see our impact over an area.
Understand the types of human activity in
an area in relation to many natural
features.
It can help us understand both our
physical earth landforms, weather, natural
disasters and human geography how
people live.
It makes life easy for environmental
health, it gives comfort due to quick
decemination of information.
11. REGIONAL GEOGRAPHY
Is the study of world regions.
Is also a certain approach to
geographical study, comparable
to quantitative geography or critical
geography.
Is paid to unique characteristics of a
particular region such as natural
elements, human elements,
and regionalization which covers the
techniques of delineating space
into regions.
Is the investigation and correlation of
all significant phenomena as they are
found in any particular area.
12. TROPICAL GEOGRAPHY
Study of places and people
in the tropics.
Is the study of single
phenomena on the earth’s
surface.
It is directed toward an
understanding of spatial
arrangement or a real
distribution of the
phenomenon and its
significance to human
occupancy of the area..
13. ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY
The study of the location, distribution
and spatial organization of economic
activities across the world. It represents
a traditional subfield of the discipline
of geography.
Emphasizes the relationships between
men’s efforts to earn a living on the
earth’s surface.
It concerned with the economic activities
of man in specific localities and related
to the other phenomena with which they
are associated.
14. POLITICAL GEOGRAPY
Is the field of human geography that is
concerned with the study of both the
spatially uneven outcomes
of political processes and the ways in
which political processes are
themselves affected by spatial
structures.
Is the study of internal and external
relationships of political units.
Consider the significance of
geography behind political
problems,activities and situations.
15. HISTORICAL GEOGRAPHY
Is the study of
the human, physical, fictional,
theoretical, and geographies of the
past.
Is the study of change in a real
differentiation through time.
Study of a place or region at a specific ti
me or period in the past,or the study of
geographic change in a place or region
over a period of time.
16. ZOOGEOGRAPHY
The science dealing with the g
eographical distribution of ani
mals.
Determination of the areas
characterized by special groups
of animals and the study of the
causes and significance of such
groups.
Concerned with the distribution
of animals and their adaptation
to, or their reaction by the
environment.
17. SOCIAL GEOGRAPHY
Is the branch of
human geography that is most
closely related to social theory
in general and sociology in
particular, dealing with the
relation of social phenomena
and its spatial components.
Is concerned with their
distribution,their contrast from
one area to another,and their
relation to the total
environment.
18. THINK PIECE # 5:
In your own word, define the following
types of Geography and the importance
of this to our life.
Physical Geography
Human Geography
Environmental Geography
