Tactical Language Training  Design Report
Disclaimer  This is a theory and apart from heuristics and design principles, do not backed up by any research data This is a high level report and do not detail out all the scenarios Only wireframes are produced as design artifacts to reference the design concept   Design details for installer is not described here There are probably more open questions than answers
Game Objective  To build the basic level meet & greet skill in a different language and culture.  The gamer is typically a US Army Squad leader with a basic high school education Train Him
Overview  This report try to uncover the design issues in three layers.

The Game Flow Tactical Language Training
Start  Install Game Success? No Yes Play? No Yes Personalization (avatar etc)  Save Briefing  Instructor training  Mission (scenarios) Stop

User control and freedom  Personalization of the Player  Persona Name  Skill level We could use webcam to create avatars  Look & Feel Prefer-ences Setup audio and voice

briefing  Tactical Language Training
Match between system and the real world Briefing is vocal  The First Briefing Room Experience  Commanding officer will brief the learner  Yes sir protocol  Briefing will only happen at the start of the game (first time) Gamer could however replay it Commanding officer will take command and talk through high level game objective and flow  Commanding officer also has an assessment sheet for review  Commanding officer will reward or punish the gamer Only voice based instructions would be given This is a monologue
Language Training  Tactical Language Training
Recognition rather than recall Training is vocal  Learned persona (Arabic) The Language Learning Experience  Control will be shifted to the language trainer  Trainer will explain training objectives verbally  Only spoken instruction would be provided to the learner Learning specific scenarios would be played by the gamer after each learning cycle (mock drill)  Language trainer will assess gamer and keep scores This is a dialog between trainer/ computer and learner       Learn mode
Game interaction  Tactical Language Training

Game Interaction Paradigms  Smart hints will be provided where ever required Hint: Gamers will use spacebar to initiate talk  Right click on any object or place would initiate a context menu Gamers will use keyboard arrow keys to move About Object? Go here Initiate conversation  Hint Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors
View Subject while Interacting (auto Snap) Gamer can view himself while talking to a person  Gamer can also go to a full screen mode for more involved experience  Error prevention

Language Learning Game Concept
