4.1 Brief sumary
Before Columbus discovered Jamaica in 1494, the island was m-habited by indigenous.
Their culture included hunting and fishing. Their villages were small and simple
communities. The arrival of the Spanish had a drastic impact and changed everything on
Jamaica. The indigenous communities completely disappeared.

fish (the national dish). An important Jamaican cocktail is banana and orange smoothie.

to Harlem" a best-seller that won the Gold Prize for Literature.

in shape. There are lots of sports, but here are some of the most popular played in
Jamaica:
1. Football (soccer): Football has given hope to many of their young people, thanks to
the passion, popularity and fame of their 1998 World Cup Football qualification.
2. Cricket: cricket is a pastime of young and old.
3. Athletics: Jamaica is one of the international competitors in athletics for many years.
