PowerPoint Presentations by the 6th grade students of 7th Primary School of Palaio Faliro, Athens, Greece (School Year 2012-2013, English Teacher: Maria Papadaki) for the Environmental Programme entitled "Τσιμεντένιες πόλεις, πέτρινες ζωές" OR "Cities of cement, Lives of stone" in cooperation with the Greek teacher and the Arts teacher of the class. Beddington Zero Energy Development (BedZED) is an environmentally friendly housing development in Hackbridge, London, England.
2. It is in the London Borough of Sutton, about two miles east of the town
of Sutton itself.

5. It was designed by the architect Bill Dunster to support
a more sustainable lifestyle. The project was led by the
Peabody Trust in partnership with Bill Dunster
Architects, Ellis & Moore Consulting Engineers,
BioRegional, Arup and the cost consultants Gardiner and
Theobald.
6. The 82 homes, and 1,405 square metres of work space were
built in 2000–2002. The project was shortlisted for the
Stirling Prize in 2003.
7. Zero energy—The project is designed to use only energy from renewable sources
generated on site. There are 777 m² of solar panels. Heating and electricity are
produced by tree waste.
8. Energy efficient—The houses face
south to take advantage of
solar gain, are triple glazed, and
have high thermal insulation.
10. Water efficient—Most rain water falling on the site is collected and reused. Appliances are
chosen to be water-efficient and use recycled water when possible to water the plants in
gardens and greenhouses. A "Living Machine" system of recycling waste water was installed,
but is not operating.
12. The inside of the house is very bright because of the huge
balcony doors that let sunshine get into the house.
In this way the houses save energy
for lighting and heating,
which is cheaper and more eco-friendly.
