William Blake (1757-1827) was an English poet, painter, and printmaker. He was born in London and homeschooled with his siblings. Though not widely known as a poet during his lifetime, he wrote famous poems such as "The Tyger" and "The School Boy." Blake claimed he saw angels and believed they lived among humans, though he did not adhere to a specific religion. Many of his paintings depicted religious and biblical scenes through symbolic imagery and explored the relationship between science and religion.
