3. Life Experience Short Story Boat Carving “How did you know that there was a banca inside that piece of wood?” – this is the question of a very young boy, Bong, to his father, Ka Tonyo, who is a carver or a sculptor – fisherman.
4. Yakal Tree Ka Tonyo cut an aged yakal in the backyard. He trimmed its branches and from day to day, piece by piece, little by little, he cut the timber. Little Bong watched his father work. At times, he imitated his father. He will get a piece of wood, pretending to shape several toys out of the blocks.
5. One day, as he followed his father’s every move, he saw an emerging shape from his timber. His father cut some more until a prominent figure of a banca is evident.
6. The little boy’s eyes grew big and amazed. He asked his father, “Tay, how did you know that there was a banca inside the yakal trunk?” Ka Tonyo gave his son a boisterous laugh!
