3. Why do we wear poppies in November? We wear poppies to remember all those people who died in wars. This started after the First World War. The date of 11th November was chosen to be Remembrance Day as it was on that day in 1918 that the First World War ended. It is also called Armistice Day.

8. War memorials On the Sunday nearest to 11 th November, people gather at war memorials and hold a service to remember all those who died in wars. The war memorial in London is called the Cenotaph. It was built to commemorate the Armistice. It is still used for Remembrance Day ceremonies.
