From the above slide, we can see FSO reverse evolution from space to commercial technology. The technology for the TereScope (Optical Access) laser communication systems was fostered from the Ballistic Missile Defense sponsored satellite laser communication program developed at AstroTerra San Diego (Today OpticalAccess) .The Space Technology Research Vehicle launched in June 2000 The satellite transceiver is designed to communicate to a ground terminal at a maximum data rate of 1 Gbps (two channels at 500 Mbps) The laser com transceiver is designed for satellite- to- ground ranges of 600 to 1800 km. The strength of such project implies on commercial quality of the product line and the future development that certainly achieve existing market needs. The satellite transceiver have each channel has four 1 in. transmit aperture lasers. The receive aperture is 5.5 in. in diameter. The ground station will consist of three 12 in. transmit apertures and a single 16 in. diameter receive aperture.
