2. Ku Klux Klan is created
Started in the early
1860’s.
It was an organization
that practiced extreme
showing of white
supremacy and anti-
immigration.

3. The South Secedes from
The Union
February 1861.
The name that was
referred to the federal
government(Northern
States).
The Union was
opposed by the 11
southern slaves states

4. Fort Sumter is attacked
It occurred near
Charleston, South Carolina
from April 12-14, 1861.
It started the beginning of
the American Civil War.

5. The Battle of Antietem
September, 1862.
It was the first major
battle on Union soil. It
was considered one of the
bloodiest battles of the
war with around 23,000
casualties on both sides.

6. Gettysburg
July 1863
Had the Largest
number of casualties in
the Civil War.
Considered the turning
point of the war.

7. The Emancipation
Proclamation
Executive order given
in January, 1863.
It was an executive
order by President
Abraham Lincoln that
declared the slaves
during the war free.

8. The Gettysburg Address is
given
November 1863.
He stated the natural
rights of all men and
that the slaves were
no longer slaves.

9. Wade Davis Bill is passed
July 1864.
It was made to repair
ties to the Union.
Lincoln did not sign
the bill believing it
would not be able to
repair ties to the
Union.

10. Freedman’s Bureau
is created
March 1865.
It was Bureau created to
aid distressed freedmen
during the
reconstruction era of the
United States.

11. Abraham Lincoln
Assassinated
April 1865.
Assassinated by John
Wilkes Booth at the
Peterson house.

12. Surrender at Appomattox
Courthouse
It was the final attack on
the Union before they
surrendered.
It was also the final
stand for the
Confederates who could
not join with
reinforcements.

13. The 13th Amendment is
passed
It was adopted by
December of 1865.
It officially outlaws
slavery and involuntary
servitude. It was the first
of the three reconstruction
amendments.

14. First Reconstruction Act
is Passed
March 1867.
It was to establish a
military government
in the south.

15. Second Reconstruction
Act
March 1867.
It gave any man of
the United States
who was of the age
of 21 years or older
may join the
military.

16. Andrew Johnson is
Impeached
February 1868.
It was the first
impeachment in the history
of the United States.
The reason for his
impeachment was the fact
that he was trying to take
hold of the reconstruction
policies in the opposite way
the people wanted.

17. The 14th Amendment is
passed
Made black people
citizens of the U.S.
passed July 1868.

18. Ulysses S Grant becomes
president
March 1869.
He was a Union war
hero.
He was successfully
destroyed the KKK
during his presidency.

19. The Compromise of 1877
is passed
Was a compromise of
the intense election of
1876.
The compromise was to
move their troops out of
each others territories
