Notes de l'éditeur

1. 1. College freshmen do not know the the fraternities or males she becomes friends. 2. This is usually there first time experiencing freedom so they become more vulnerable because they might be drinking more. 3. They want to be accepted by there new friends and may go along with the crime 4. Many college women have a false sense of security because crime on campus is so under reported.
2. 1. Older women can be lonely and some are searching for companionship. they may lower there normal standards or take risks they usually wouldn’t 2. They can be over confident believing they’ve been through everything and are experienced. a “been there, done that” sort of attitude, minimizing any potential danger. 3. There are many older women who go throughout there lives without anything happening to them so they become less worried about being hurt.
3. Attitude- the mindset you have and the image you project Awareness- seeing what is going on around you Avoidance- simple everyday actions to reduce risk Action- direct steps to take when confronted.
4. 1.Never accepting the idea of being a victim and someone has control over your life 2. Stand tall with a upright posture, head held high, looking at your surroundings. slumping or letting your shoulders droop communicates weakness. 3. Criminals look for targets that appear weak, distracted or otherwise easy to subdue. someone that is vulnerable. 3. Walk with determination, with your head up, swinging your arms and exuding confidence. project the image that you are alert and can deal with any issue that you have to face.
5. 1. Experts describe this as having a radar. Radar’s uses radio frequency pulses that reflect off targets to determine there distance. Women need to adapt this similar scanning process to evaluate your surrounding
6. 1. At residence- when cosidering a apartment inquire about the amount of crime in the neighborhood. look at your home like a burglar would. is there easy access inside your apartment or home? 2. Walking- know your surroundings, do not talk on cellphones, have headphones on or have other distrations that prevent you from being aware of your surroundings. never be a hero 3. Cars- lock car doors when inside, have your keys out and ready, look into the back seat of your vehicle. 4. Work- try not to work late at night by yourself, lock your purse in a desk drawer or file cabinet during the day.
7. Make sure that you make as much eye contact as possible when you are walking in public. Assailants do not like that because you could potentially identify them. Eye contact is a common problem with both men and women these days – they do not tend to do it while in public. This makes them one step removed from the action and therefore they are vulnerable. You will discover that holding your head high and looking people in the eye costs you nothing, however you gain not only more self-respect but also a greater security.
8. 1. Martial arts is something that can be useful if there is a need to become physical but knowing how to stop any type of physical defense is the key
9. 1. Started in the 1990’s 2. It is made up of different certified self-defense instructors and law enforcement officers. the they mostly teach empty hand training and martial arts.
10. 1. Self-defense is about how you can get yourself out of a situation with out the use of being physical and learning how to talk your way out of situations 2. Martial arts- is kickboxing, tae kwondo,
11. 1. Mostly its about common sense ways to get your way out. 2. How to talk yourself out of a situation. these classes give self-confidence to know what to do when alone. 3. They also show how not to get into the situation in the first place. 4. for example if someone is sitting on top of your car, instead of yelling and screaming and causing a fight calmly ask them to get off. Reflexes are generally the most common focus of self defense, and with training a woman will be able to hone her reflexes so that she will be able to react sooner to an attack or an attempted attack.
12. 1. having a martial arts back ground is something that is a benefit to all girls In Martial arts they show you how to use enough force to get away not to physically hurt someone. This improves one’s strength, stamina and flexibility.
13. 1. When in the moment people often freeze when fighting. 2. Many martial arts moves are tricky and complicated for the average person to do and are not executed properly. 3. There are times when the attacker has a weapon and martial arts can not help against a knife or gun. 4. Some people don’t have enough knowledge in there field of fighting before using there techniques.
14. When there is someone trying to attack a women, most women immediately freeze up from fear. Say someone is on top of a women she will most likely say the number one reason she didn’t fight back is because she was too scared.
15. Effects your fine motor skill performance (either slows down your movements or makes you faster and gives you more adrenaline), your brain (forces you to think faster, keeps you in the moment or takes you to a different less harmful place), auditory system(helps your hearing), visual system (tunnel vision), and increases heart rate
16. By becoming angry your getting a mindset that you want to live and to not to have someone have power over you. Your mindset should be that no one has the right to hurt, push you around, treat you like crap, or take your life from you. there should be a trigger in your mind where it is survival. it could be a word or a phrase that makes you angry. You have to have the ability to move from defense to offensive instantly to survive in an encounter.
17. Simple everyday objects can be used as a weapon of defense: Your car keys held between your fingers A pen or pencil A can or bottle of soda A stick, cane, or umbrella. A rock from the ground Hair spray An ash tray Knee Finger Nails Your forehead or back of your head. (very painful to the mouth or nose of an attacker) The palm of your hand. ( Much better than your fists) The heal of your shoe. Hurts like hell on the top of the foot of a would be attacker.
18. As a women and a human being we have the right to go into a situation without anxiety or fear. self-defense courses help to bring out the courage that is inside of you. self-esteem is important because without it you will not be confident in what you do and how you do it. in a self-defense class women learn how to defend themselves and stand up for themselves when they are being abused. take for example a physically and/or verbally abused women. the self-esteem of that women is very low because she feels that she has to live up to the expations of her husband. those women do not know how to stand up for themselves and to say no. taking a class will raise the self-esteem of that women so much that she could find the will power to leave her husband.
19. Never put your back toward your attacker. Having your back toward that person gives them the ultimate power. With your back towards a person they could easily climb on top of you and hold you down.
20. escaping a shirt grab
21. Unfortunately criminals do look like normal everyday people. The one effective way that gives them away is there behavior. 7% of people’s ability to interperate intent is through words, 80% through voice, and 55% is projected through body language. Human predators do not pounce on the first person that comes along. They take there time and evaulate whether the person is a target. They project there intentions by watching, following and even “testing” you.
22. Most women believe that it can’t happen to them because most of there life nothing has. Or that a women sends out signals to provoke an assault or abuse. There is nothing that a women can do to provoke and assult.
23. Victim provocation is more common in domestic violence than any other crime. Battered women often make repeated attempts to leave but are prevented from doing so when violence and control is increased Other factors which inhibit a victim’s ability to leave include economic dependence, few viable options for housing and support, unhelpful responses from the criminal justice system, social isolation, cultural or religious constraints, a commitment to the abuser and the relationship and fear of further violence. It has been estimated that the danger to a victim increase by 70% when she attempts to leave, as the abuser escalates his use of violence when he begins to lose control.
24. Meditation is good when trying to become in control of yourself. Meditation keeps you focused and better able to prepare yourself for things that may happen in the future.
25. Using self-defense won’t be as effective unless you practice. Just because you’ve seen and learned a move on time doesn’t mean you will remember it if the time comes to use it.
