January Noteable Events January 16 – Martin Luther King Day
Through Snowpeople in the One way to bring winter fun inside is to participate in this unique competition.
January 15 Library Build a model snowperson or snow family for our “Snowpeople in the Library
Library Hours Contest. Entries may be family or individual efforts. Anyone ages 6 and up is
eligible to compete. For the 5 and under set we will have a snowman coloring
contest. Entry forms, rules, and other information available at the library until
January 15. The snow people will be on display in the library January 16-30, with

Through Baseball Clinic Sign- Youth ages 9 – 13 can sign-up now through January 7 for this clinic which will run
January 7 Up on Saturdays January through March. Young players can shake off the rust and get
baseball skills ready for the upcoming season. Participants will work on baseball
fundamentals and be in mid-season form in time for the first game. Focus will be
on arm strengthening drills, defensive workouts, and fine tuning swings. Cost for

Through A Cold Winter’s A Winter reading program developed for adults. Read at your own pace. Crafts
February 28 Knight, Reading and events throughout the length of the program. Adult readers can earn

January 3 Family Night At The “Spend Tuesday evening out with the kids at the Winner’s Circle. Pizza and Pasta
5 – 7 pm Commons Buffet is sure to meet anyone's appetite. $6 for adults and $3 for children 8 and
under. This week, families will enjoy Family Movie Night. Other activities for
Family Nights this month include: January 10 – Carnival Night, January 17 – Family
Night will be held at the Pine Plains Bowling Center, January 24 – Unicycle Riders
will visit Family Night, and January 31 – Story Night with a book give-away.

January 5 Cross Country Ski Enjoy a morning with friends in the great outdoors then a hot lunch to warm up.
9 am and Lunch The fun begins at Parks and Recreation when participants are fitted with
equipment and given training, then offered a van ride to Remington Park Trail
Head. Skiing is enjoyed until 11 am after which a lunch of soup and sandwich is
provided by the Commons and is at a cost of $7.00 per person. This weekly
program will be offered each Thursday once an appropriate amount of snow has

January 5 Trip to Disney On Ice Gather your family to see this show full of memories guaranteed to last a lifetime.
9 am – 4 pm A trip to Syracuse to see Disney On Ice: Treasure Trove. Price is $23 per person
and includes transportation and ticket to the show. Bring money for souvenirs and
food we will be stopping at McDonalds after the show.

can receive a 25% discount on rental equipment at Snow Ridge.

January 6 Indoor Paintball at Youth ages 10 – 18 can participate in this indoor paintball activity held at the
6 pm Youth Center Youth Center. Cost is $5 for YC members and $10 for non-members.

January 7 Snowmobile Safety Rider safety courses are required to use the snowmobiles. Must be 18 years of age
9 am – 4:30 pm Class or older and have proper ID. Please wear or bring boots, gloves, and appropriate
outer wear,. These classes are held at the new “Dirty Harry’s Sportsman’s Lodge.
Maximum class size is 55. Cost per person is $5. Registration is required.
Additional classes can be scheduled by units on a time-available basis.

January 7 – Snow Sculpture For some outdoor snow fun, the McEwen Library is holding a post-wide Snow
February 11 Contest Sculpture Competition which begins on January 7 and runs through February 11.
The competition is open to all DoD ID card holders and encourages individual,
family, Military Units, or Civilian Employee team participation. Sculptures can be
any size, must be on Fort Drum, and suitable for family viewing. Prize will be
awarded to the best entries by Unit or Facility, Community Housing, Family,
Individual Adult, Individual Teen, and Individual Child. The winners will be
announced at the Winter Celebration Party held at the Robert C. McEwen Library
on February 11. Complete rules and entry information is available for each of
these snow-fun competitions at the Library located at P-4300 Conway Road or by

January 11 Fort Drum Find out what’s happening on Fort Drum. The goal of the Town Hall Meeting is to
10:30 am - noon Information and provide information through representatives and guest speakers about upcoming
Town Hall Meeting events, updates on units and deployments, and other timely community
information. This is a great opportunity for all community members to get up-to-
date information directly from agency representatives. Attendees may ask
questions, express concerns and ideas and get immediate answers. ALL
community members are invited and encouraged to attend. Refreshments and
door prizes provided. Free hourly childcare slots are available on a first come first
served basis (must be CYS Services registered), call 772-7103 to make a childcare
