An Internet Web
Browser. A ‘faster’
alternative to Safari on
the Mac, or Internet
Explorer on the PC.
5. Vienna
An RSS (Rich Site
Summary) feed reader. This
means it automatically
retrieves information and
articles from websites that
you regularly visit.
6. Skype
A communication tool.
Free calls, video calls and
instant messaging over the
internet. Also has the
ability to make paid calls.
7. VLC
A media player. Plays
almost any video file type.
Available in Mac and PC
versions.
8. Handbrake
A DVD Ripper. Creates
video files on your
computer of DVDs.
Copyright issues very
‘fuzzy’. Requires VLC.
9. Jing Screen capturing. Easily
capture a short movie of your
screen, or a portion of it, and
save as a flash movie file.
10. Flip4Mac
Components that you add
to Quicktime to enable
playback of Windows
Media Video and
Audio(.wmv and .wma)
files.

Allows you (and class) to

Very similiar to delicious,
but seems to have more
‘bells and whistles’ (but
untested by me)
24. Voicethread
A website that holds
multimedia and allows
people to comment, create
and join discussions relating
to specific topics.
25. Wordle
A website that creates
word clouds from a list of
words of a body of text.
29. Piratepad / Typewith.me
Collaborative writing. Allows multiple users to write
simultaneously on one document in real time.
Uses EtherPad protocol, whose has been
bought and shut down by Google.
30. Wallwisher
Write notes on
a ‘wall’ to
record
thoughts, ideas
or answers.
