Left fill-in-the gaps activities behind when working with songs in your classroom. Get the most of your students by letting them organize themselves...
2. Collaborative Song mcromeroriera@gmail.com
Level: all levels
Materials: a song lyrics
Aim/Content: Listening. This is a great activity to review
grammar tenses and vocabulary too. You just need to pick an
appropriate song depending on your interests. You might also
want to work a romantic song for Valentine’s Day or other topics
such as drug addiction (tutoring sessions).

Procedure:
1. Once you have the lyrics of a song, split it into sentences.
Find a song which is not too repetitive or short.
2. Then, write each sentence in a sheet or a cardboard.
3. Give one to each student and arrange them in a circle.
4. Tell them to hold their bits up so that everybody can read all
sentences.
5. Students have to change places as they listen to the song.
The goal is to order all the sentences correctly.
6. Play the song several times to give them time to check their
answers.
7. Finally, show them the correct version: use a handout or
project it.

Variation:
Instead of sentences, provide your students with photos/pictures
from the song. Make them put them in the correct order while
they listen to the song.
This activity is good fun since it involves
lots of movement and group discussion!
