 What role does the environment play on
  ancient religions?

• the first organized religions sought to provide
  answers the mysteries of the world
• the forces of nature, from rain and sunshine to
  drought, earth quakes and sandstorms, were all the
  doing of the gods
GOVERNMENT
 What status does the pharaoh hold?



• pharaoh is a god-king (considered to be
  the god Horus, protector of Egypt)
• priests are important viziers (advisors)
  because of the need to always know
  the needs and desires of the gods
ART
 What themes are shown in   • murals depict religious tales and themes, or

                             • art is used as a reminder of important values

Ancient Egyptian Culture

  • 2. IMPACT OF GEOGRAPHY  What role does the environment play on ancient religions? • the first organized religions sought to provide answers the mysteries of the world • the forces of nature, from rain and sunshine to drought, earth quakes and sandstorms, were all the doing of the gods
  • 3. GOVERNMENT  What status does the pharaoh hold? • pharaoh is a god-king (considered to be the god Horus, protector of Egypt) • priests are important viziers (advisors) because of the need to always know the needs and desires of the gods
  • 4. ART  What themes are shown in • murals depict religious tales and themes, or Egyptian art? historical events • art is used as a reminder of important values and morals
  • 5. ARCHITECTURE  To what was most architecture dedicated? • pyramids, temples, monuments are built out of stone to help provide immortality for the one who it is dedicated to • many of the largest buildings were dedicated to gods

SOCIETY  How was social rank, especially toward the top, organized? • a social hierarchy was created based on the importance of an individual’s task in society • the most important people in society were involved in religious affairs, from the pharaoh at the top, followed by high priests, and then lesser priests and priestesses
