President’s Message
September 9, 2010

Welcome to the Pre-Conference Career Expo!

On behalf of the Executive Board and members of the National Black MBA Association, Inc.,
Washington, D.C. Chapter, I welcome you to our Pre-Conference Expo.

This event serves as a precursor to our national association’s Career Fair that will take place later
this month from September 23-24, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. While many nonprofit
associations and other membership-based groups struggle to develop a strategy on how to keep
their members engaged in activities that will lead to new career opportunities, our chapter has
taken the lead in being proactive to assist our members who are transitioning during these hard
economic times. We have turned to corporations, such as the ones featured here today who seek
a pool of talented individuals, such as yourself, who possesses the intellectual capital that will
meet their needs. Therefore, I encourage you to meet as many of the corporate representatives
that you can, attend the plenary sessions, ask plenty of questions, and take advantage of the
services offered here today to enhance your marketability.

Thanks to all of our participating organizations: Arabella Advisors, Capitol One, the Central
Intelligence Agency, Choice Hotels International, Cox Communications, Deloitte, , Freddie Mac,
Prudential, Sodexo, Inc., State Farm, SunTrust, and the U.S. Department of State who truly
believe in the talent our membership possesses. A special thanks to our co-sponsors, the Central
Intelligence Agency and Sodexo, Inc for whose support ensured that this event was made
possible. Additionally, I would like to thank the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc.,
Metro D.C. Chapter and the National Society of Hispanic MBAs for collaborating with us on this
event. And, since this association is run strictly by volunteers, we must all thank John James II,
who leads our Career Development/Network efforts for the chapter. For without John’s diligence
in managing such a large event for the chapter, we would not be here today.

Enjoy the Expo!

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is the premier agency responsible for providing global intelligence on the
ever-changing political, social, economic, technological and military environment. Here, your paramount goal and
mission will be to protect the national security of the United States. Virtually any job you can imagine is available at
the CIA — plus, some you can’t even imagine.

Mission

We are the nation’s first line of defense. We accomplish what others cannot accomplish and go where others cannot
go. We carry out our mission by:

 Collecting information that reveals the plans, intentions and capabilities of our adversaries and provides the
          basis for decision and action.

 Producing timely analysis that provides insight, warning and opportunity to the President and decision-
makers charged with protecting and advancing America’s interests.

 Conducting covert action at the direction of the President to preempt threats or achieve US policy
          objectives.

Core Values

 Service. We put Country first and Agency before self. Quiet patriotism is our hallmark. We are dedicated
to the mission, and we pride ourselves on our extraordinary responsiveness to the needs of our customers.

 Integrity. We uphold the highest standards of conduct. We seek and speak the truth—to our colleagues and
to our customers. We honor those Agency officers who have come before us and we honor the colleagues
          with whom we work today.

 Excellence. We hold ourselves—and each other—to the highest standards. We embrace personal
accountability. We reflect on our performance and learn from that reflection.

Make a difference in your career. Consider the global employment opportunities at the CIA. We're looking for a
diversity of people for the important job of keeping America safe. This includes Clandestine Service Officers to be
on the front line of human intelligence, and individuals skilled in science, engineering, technology, analysis, foreign
languages and administration for positions in the United States and overseas.

  • 3. President’s Message September 9, 2010 Welcome to the Pre-Conference Career Expo! On behalf of the Executive Board and members of the National Black MBA Association, Inc., Washington, D.C. Chapter, I welcome you to our Pre-Conference Expo. This event serves as a precursor to our national association’s Career Fair that will take place later this month from September 23-24, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. While many nonprofit associations and other membership-based groups struggle to develop a strategy on how to keep their members engaged in activities that will lead to new career opportunities, our chapter has taken the lead in being proactive to assist our members who are transitioning during these hard economic times. We have turned to corporations, such as the ones featured here today who seek a pool of talented individuals, such as yourself, who possesses the intellectual capital that will meet their needs. Therefore, I encourage you to meet as many of the corporate representatives that you can, attend the plenary sessions, ask plenty of questions, and take advantage of the services offered here today to enhance your marketability. Thanks to all of our participating organizations: Arabella Advisors, Capitol One, the Central Intelligence Agency, Choice Hotels International, Cox Communications, Deloitte, , Freddie Mac, Prudential, Sodexo, Inc., State Farm, SunTrust, and the U.S. Department of State who truly believe in the talent our membership possesses. A special thanks to our co-sponsors, the Central Intelligence Agency and Sodexo, Inc for whose support ensured that this event was made possible. Additionally, I would like to thank the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc., Metro D.C. Chapter and the National Society of Hispanic MBAs for collaborating with us on this event. And, since this association is run strictly by volunteers, we must all thank John James II, who leads our Career Development/Network efforts for the chapter. For without John’s diligence in managing such a large event for the chapter, we would not be here today. Enjoy the Expo! Oscar W. Mardis President
